The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess is one of the most critically acclaimed games in Nintendo's storied franchise, with the game serving as both a swan song to the GameCube as well as a launch title for the Nintendo Wii. Well, the game will now be available on a third Nintendo home console, as Nintendo has officially announced The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD for release on Wii U on March 4th, 2016.

Rumors of Twilight Princess HD appeared a few weeks ago, with the evidence convincing enough for many to assume that the game would be announced during the latest Nintendo Direct presentation. Even though the surprise of Twilight Princess HD was spoiled beforehand, Nintendo still had one trick up their sleeve for fans.

Not only is Twilight Princess HD coming on March 4th, but it will be joined by the brand new Wolf Link amiibo. As far as amiibo figures go, Wolf Link is rather unique looking, and includes the character Midna riding on its back. The game will also be compatible with the Ganondorf, Link, Princess Zelda, Sheik, and Toon Link amiibo from the Super Smash Bros. line of figures. That being said, the specific functionality of the figures as it pertains to Twilight Princess HD wasn't revealed during the Nintendo Direct presentation.

It was also said at the end of the reveal that Twilight Princess HD will feature new content that wasn't in the original game. Whether or not this content applies specifically to the amiibo or not wasn't clarified, but with the game's release date not too far off, it's likely that we will learn more about the potential new content in Twilight Princess HD sooner rather than later.

By the way, those that want to be guaranteed the Wolf Link amiibo day one should consider pre-ordering the Twilight Princess HD Wolf Link amiibo bundle. Besides being guaranteed a copy of the game and a Wolf Link amiibo, those that pre-order will also get a CD of the game's official soundtrack, making it a worthwhile option to consider for Zelda fans.

While the surprise of Twilight Princess HD was spoiled a few weeks before its proper unveiling, the reveal of the Wolf Link amiibo was unexpected. Even more unexpected was the news that the Wolf Link amiibo will actually be able to transfer data to the new Legend of Zelda for Wii U, but Nintendo was light on details in that regard as well. Hopefully this solidifies that The Legend of Zelda for Wii U is still on the way for the system, and that it's not jumping ship to the Nintendo NX.

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD and the Wolf Link amiibo will both be available on March 4th, 2016.
