WiiUBrew hackers discover a listing in the Wii U eShop update that could indicate that The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess is receiving a HD remake.
While nothing has been officially announced by Nintendo, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess might just be receiving a HD remaster for the Wii U. Wii hacker group WiiUBrew has discovered a listing for the game hidden in the latest update to the Japanese Wii U eShop, simply titled ‘The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD.’
While the listing is definitively for a Wii U game, there’s no way to be sure whether it’s simply a test, placeholder, or a sign of something to come. In any case, it’s not listed for any territories outside of Japan at this time.
While it would be surprising for Nintendo to let a HD remake for a major title to slip through to the public this way, it certainly wouldn’t be the first HD remaster of an older Zelda title. The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask, Ocarina of Time, and The Wind Waker have all received HD remakes or remasters in recent history, either being released to the 3DS or the Wii U. With Twilight Princess being the next main series game in line chronologically, it makes sense for Nintendo to tackle it next, and to create a HD version of Skyward Sword at a later date.
While it may seem hard to believe that Nintendo would let knowledge of a Twilight Princess remake leak this way, Nintendo has suffered from much larger leaks in the past. Nintendo and Tecmo-Koei’s plans to surprise fans at E3 with a trailer promoting a Hyrule Warriors port for the 3DS was spoiled, with the full trailer released online ahead of E3.
Many signs point to Nintendo not meeting their promise to release the next iteration of The Legend of Zelda in 2016. While Miyamoto himself has said that the next Zelda will still come to the Wii U, some fans are also concerned that the next Zelda game may be pushed forward to the Nintendo NX, or published on both the NX and the Wii U, much like how Twilight Princess was released for the Gamecube and Wii. While gamers have been receptive towards prior Zelda HD remakes, another HD remake is probably not what most Zelda fans are waiting for.
Do you think that Nintendo is secretly remastering The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, or is this just a dummy shop listing? Let us know in the comments.
