In The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Link takes on the role of a homeowner once again, but with an enhanced housing system that offers extensive customization options beyond what little Breath of the Wild provided. In addition to owning a house, Link also stakes claim to some farmland, indirectly at least, gaining the privilege to grow crops on a small farm located in Hateno Village. This allows him to grow elusive ingredients necessary for cooking and crafting elixirs.

To unlock the ability to farm and grow crops in Hateno Village, Link must complete both parts of a side quest that begins in Hateno Village. There are no required prerequisites to start this side quest, though the player must have unlocked the camera.

It's important to note that Link does not have to have purchased a home or completed any quests in Tarrey Town to begin this side quest and unlock the farm in Tears of the Kingdom, and Link never gains the ability to farm at his home. The only available farm in Tears of the Kingdom is found in Hateno Village, and it can be unlocked by following the process detailed below.

How to Unlock the Farm in Tears of the Kingdom

Hateno Village is located northeast of Ebon Mountain and southwest of Mount Lanayru. The most efficient method of reaching Hateno Village is to fast travel to the Mount Lanayru Skyview Tower, then use the paraglider to head toward the village, which can be found nestled below some nearby ponds around coordinates 3356, -2129, 0121. The player should discover and complete the nearby Zanmik Shrine to gain access to a fast travel point.

Once the player has arrived in Hateno Village, they should follow the detailed wooden signs that lead to the village school, nestled at the far northwest of the village at coordinates 3365, -1984, 0129. Here, Link is reunited with the teacher Symin, who was previously stationed at the village's Ancient Tech Lab in Breath of the Wild. Nowadays, he is faced with a new challenge: convincing his skeptical young students about the occurrence of the Calamity and other historical events.

He'll ask Link for help, which will begin the side quest, "Teach Me a Lesson." The quest is a bit time-consuming as it requires a fair bit of travel and obtaining a few rare materials. For a comprehensive walkthrough of these quests and their objectives, players should check this detailed guide to completing the "Teach Me a Lesson" Side Quest series in Tears of the Kingdom.

Upon successfully completing both parts of the "Teach Me a Lesson" quest series, players will finally gain access to the Hateno School farm, which is located just southwest of the school building. This grants them the ability to grow crops in this designated area.

How to Grow Crops in Tears of the Kingdom

The kind-hearted Uma will tend to the crops in Link's absence at no cost to him. There are no special seeds for Link to collect; Uma simply requires the actual fruit or vegetable for cultivation.

The crops grown in this farmland can be harvested every two in-game days. It's worth mentioning that resting or sleeping will not expedite this process. To ensure the growth and availability of the crops, players must leave the village and return at least once to allow for their successful harvest.

With their newly unlocked ability to farm, players can cultivate desirable ingredients like Endura Carrots, ensuring a steady supply of excellent food to keep their stash fully stocked.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is available for the Nintendo Switch.
