Cooking up a Chillfin Trout in Tears of the Kingdom will grant heat-resistance, which is ideal when exploring arid areas such as the Gerudo Region. As their name implies, Chillfin Trout prefer colder habitats such as the waters in the Tabantha or Hebra regions. Because of this, they are much harder to come by than Hyrule Bass or Ancient Arowanas.

Chillfin Trout can also be used to upgrade a particular armor set in Tears of the Kingdom, so players may want to farm as much as they can per area before going elsewhere. They should also not be confused with Frozen Trout. While Frozen Trout does grant heat-resistance, it can't be cooked whereas Chillfin Trout can.

Chillfin Trout Location (TotK)

Chillfin Trout can be found at Zora's Domain and Tama Pond. Fishing them can be difficult in TotK thanks to the removal of the Remote Bombs from its predecessor, Breath of the Wild. Players will need to jump in and swim after the trout, or they can use arrows.

To make fishing easier, equip armor that increases swimming speed (such as the Zora Armor). Those that prefer to use a bow should equip their "weakest" bow and stock up on arrows. Avoid fusing Bomb Flowers to arrows as this will turn the Chillfin Trout into Roasted Trout. Roasted Trout counts as a "meal," thus it can't be cooked. Furthermore, Link won't be able to get any effects from a Roasted Chillfin Trout.

Players that have unlocked the Hyrule Compendium can track Chillfin Trout. This involves getting a picture of the trout first, however. From there, open the map with (-) and press Y-button to change the Sensor from Shrines to anything in the Compendium.

Zora's Domain

Players can find Chillfin Trout swimming beneath Zora's Domain near the Mogawak Shrine (3299, 0424, 0112). Zora's Domain can be reached from the Upland Zorana Skyview Tower.

Look for Chillfin Trout splashing out of the water under Zora's Domain. If players are having a difficult time finding them, they can use the Purah Pad's Camera. Chillfin Trout will appear on the pad's screen with an orange question mark over their head until Link walks close enough (or zooms in) for them to be identified.

Tama Pond

The next place to look for Chillfin Trout is at Tama Pond (-2997, 1895, 0307). This is easier to reach if players leave from Rospro Pass Skyview Tower or the Oromuwak Shrine (-3079, 1618, 0243). Aside from Chillfin Trout, players can farm Voltfin Trout from the Tama Pond as well.

Where to Use Chillfin Trout

Chillfin Trout can be cooked together or with other food to create meals that have Heat Resistance. Until players get heat-resistant armor, consuming a meal cooked with Chillfin Trout is a good way to traverse hotter regions. The more Chillfin Trout added to a recipe, the longer the heat-resistance will last.

There is a difference between heat-resistance and flame-resistance. A meal with Chillfin Trout won't protect Link from areas that are surrounded by lava (ex: caves in Eldin Region).

For those that don't want to cook Chillfin Trout, they should hang onto them for upgrading armor. The Frostbite Set requires Chillfin Trout for its final upgrade. Players will need x10 Chillfin Trout per armor.
