Early on in the story of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Link loses the most powerful weapon in his arsenal, the Master Sword. This legendary and iconic weapon has been a part of the series for a very long time. There are many main story quests that players must complete, and one of them eventually leads players back to the Master Sword.
Just like in Breath of the Wild, the Master Sword is a very powerful weapon. But since weapon durability has returned in Tears of the Kingdom, players may be wondering if they need to be conservative with their use of the Master Sword to keep it from breaking.
Does the Master Sword Break?
For players worried about if the Master Sword can break like any other weapons in Tears of the Kingdom, there is good news. The Master Sword cannot break due to its unique nature. Of course, that doesn't mean that players can use it all the time. As the Master Sword is used to damage foes, it gradually loses energy as opposed to durability. When the Master Sword begins to get low, players will see a message that says: "The Master Sword is running low on energy".
After a few more hits, the Master Sword will run out of energy. While the weapon technically disappears from Link's hand it is still in inventory. On the weapons tab, the Master Sword will be faded out. When Tears of the Kingdom players put the cursor over the Master Sword they will see a cooldown.
It takes 10 minutes for the Master Sword to fully recharge and be usable again. When the Master Sword is ready, players will see a message on their screen. So while the Master Sword can be used whenever players want, they will want to be mindful of the fact that it will go on a 10-minute cooldown if it is used frequently.
Can the Master Sword be Fused?
The Master Sword can in fact be fused with other materials. This allows players to further increase the attack power of the Master Sword above its default attack power (which cannot be seen in-game, unfortunately). When an object is fused onto the Master Sword, players will see a series of green runes appear along the blade.
In addition, the Master Sword will have a unique visual effect on it. In the picture above, the Master Sword was fused with a diamond. Keep in mind that these boosts to attack power for the Master Sword are only temporary. Any item that is fused with the Master Sword will be lost when it eventually runs out of energy from use. So make sure to save anything that provides a significant power boost for any bosses.
