The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom presents Link with a ton of new challenges, but nothing is as classic as the weather. The weather is one of the earliest and most damaging threats Link faces, and without proper protection, it can easily be deadly. This goes for extreme cold, extreme heat, and lightning. Luckily, with the right equipment (or lack of wrong equipment), it's not too hard to manage. Here's how to avoid lightning damage in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

How To Avoid Lightning in Tears of the Kingdom

The most basic and realistic thing players can do to avoid lightning strikes is to unequip any weapons, shields, or bows that have metal in them. Players can tell which items attract lightning in the overworld by checking which ones have a shine to them and in the menu by identifying that same sparkle.

Most swords will attract lightning due to the metal blade, so construct weapons/wooden ones are a safe choice. This is where players can take advantage of fused weapons to really boost attack. If the player does not have any of those, it might be worth skipping time by sitting by a fire until the storm is over.

How To Resist Lightning in Tears of the Kingdom

The most effective way to avoid lightning in Tears of the Kingdom is by equipping armor that resists it. There are two options for this, one being the Rubber Set and the other being the much harder-to-get Thunder Helm.

The Rubber Set can be found at coordinates '0083 - 1117 - 0002' inside Whistling Hill Cave, Hyrule Field. The cave has several electric-based enemies inside and a few breakable rock barriers. This set gives incredible shock resistance.

The Thunder Helm, on the other hand, can be found with the Gerudo and Riju. It is currently unknown how exactly to obtain the Thunder Helm in Tears of the Kingdom - this guide will be updated with the latest information when it is available.

How Much Damage Does Lightning Do?

In Tears of the Kingdom, lightning does up to 14.5 hearts of damage and knocks off any weapons Link holds. This is more hearts than most players will have for most of the game, so precautions should definitely be taken.
