Bubbul Gems are a new collectible item added in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Bubbul Gems are exclusively dropped by Bubbulfrogs, large mystical frogs that can be found in the various caves and tunnels of Hyrule. These gems can be traded with Koltin, the brother of Kilton from Breath of the Wild, in exchange for monster armor and other unique items.

Bubbul Gems are key to obtaining one of Tears of the Kingdom's most desirable armor, the Mystic Clothing set. To unlock trading with Koltin, players must first complete a short side adventure. Here's how to get Bubbul Gems and unlock Koltin's shop in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

Where to Find Kilton to Start Koltin’s Side Adventure

To find Koltin, the player will first need to locate Kilton, proprietor of Breath of the Wild’s Fang and Bone shop. Kilton can be found just northeast of Woodland Stable at the mouth of a cave next to the small Pico Pond. He’ll be standing just outside the cave near the oversized balloon cart that housed his shop in Breath of the Wild.

When players approach Kilton, he will inquire about their business in the nearby cave. Before he can explain further, Kilton's brother, Koltin, emerges from the cave, looking visibly disappointed. Koltin believes that obtaining a Bubbul Gem will allow him to transform into a Satori, the magnificent Lord of the Mountain. Even though the chances of this happening are extremely slim, Link will still agree to help him.

How to Complete “The Hunt for Bubbul Gems!”

Koltin will offer a Side Adventure called “The Hunt for Bubbul Gems!” and ask the player to give him a Bubbul Gem. If the player hasn't obtained one yet, they can venture into the Pico Pond Cave that Koltin just left and defeat a Bubbulfrog to acquire a Bubbul Gem. The gem is a blue, glowing crystal that resembles a snowflake, and the player needs to obtain just one to finish the Side Adventure.

After acquiring a Bubbul Gem, players can return to Koltin and give it to him to complete his Side Adventure. In return, Koltin will reward the player with a Bokoblin Mask, which is a mostly cosmetic headgear that offers a mere three Armor points.

Unfortunately, and unsurprisingly, Koltin's desire to transform into a Satori was not fulfilled with just one Bubbul Gem. He informs the player that he requires more of these gems to achieve his dream then runs off. Kilton will then tell the player that he is heading to Tarrey Town and offers to assist the player in locating Kilton for future trades.

Where to Find Koltin and his Bubbul Gem Shop

After Kilton relocates to Tarrey Town, which is situated on the central island of Lake Akkala, Link can speak with him to learn about Koltin's present location. Kilton will then direct Link toward where Koltin has currently set up shop. It is important to note that Koltin's shop is open only at night, specifically after 9:00 PM.

Unlike Kilton’s Monster Shop in Breath of the Wild, Koltin will offer a random monster part or armor piece in exchange for a fixed amount of Bubbul Gems. There is no new currency, like BOTW’s Mon, to be obtained, and Kilton will not have multiple items available for purchase at once. The amount of Bubbul Gems he requests will increase with each new item he has available.

It’s important to note that Koltin’s inventory will only change once the player purchases the currently available item. Therefore, there is no reason to hold off on spending any Bubbul Gems the player has obtained. Additionally, Bubbul Gems do not have any other use besides trading with Koltin in Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

How to Get More Bubbul Gems in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

Bubbul Gems can be obtained only from Bubbulfrogs. Bubbulfrogs are found in Tears of the Kingdom's new caves and tunnels and can be defeated in just one hit. Additionally, each cave or tunnel will have only one Bubbulfrog, which will not respawn when defeated. When the player has defeated the Bubbulfrog in a cavern, the cave icon will be marked as "completed" on the world map, signified with a checkmark.
