A returning feature in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is the day/night cycle. The completely open world is ever-changing from its weather, climates, and rotating sun. These affect players and the environment in various ways, resulting in good and bad consequences. Players may need to change the time of day for several reasons, including completing quests, unlocking mysteries, or avoiding storms. Fortunately, there are a couple of ways to fast-forward time quickly in Tears of the Kingdom whenever players need to.

How to Change the Time of Day in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

Players can change the time in Tears of the Kingdom using a fire or a bed. Fires are more attainable since players can start their own and use it anytime. To create a fire, use a wood bundle and a flint.

Wood can be gathered by chopping up trees with an axe, and flint is picked up by destroying rocks on mountains. Drop both items on the ground, hit the flint with a metal weapon, or throw a Fire Fruit. Of course, sometimes other travelers will already have fires started that players can use.

To change the time, approach a fire until the Sit option appears; make sure not to get too close because Link is flammable. After selecting sit, players can choose how long they want to rest. There are three options for the time of day: morning (5:00), noon (12:00), or night (21:00).

Certain side quests require a specific time of day to complete, and there are even shrines that can only be discovered depending on the sun's position. Changing the time is also an excellent way to wait out thunderstorms to avoid slick walls and lightning.

Another way to change the time in Tears of the Kingdom is to sleep in a bed. Beds are found in most villages, cities, stables, and outposts inside the Inns. The only downside to using a bed is that it usually costs 20 Rupees. For a free option, players can fast-travel to Lookout Landing and use the bed inside the Emergency Shelter if they don't mind going to a different area.

Sleeping has the same time options as sitting by a fire, but there are additional benefits outside of passing the time. For example, players can restore hearts by sleeping if they need to heal themselves. Massages are also offered at Inns, which gives Link extra stamina temporarily, but they cost more than a regular bed.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is available exclusively on the Nintendo Switch.
