With the launch of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, one gamer chose to mark the occasion by crafting their own incredible, custom game case out of wood. The gamer then posted their handiwork on social media for other Tears of the Kingdom players to see, and received praise for their efforts and their attention to detail.

As the newest title in The Legend of Zelda series, Tears of the Kingdom has been praised for expanding upon the foundation laid by Breath of the Wild and has received critical acclaim from various media outlets, including an OpenCritic score of 97. Within the first few days of release, Tears of the Kingdom sold over 10 million units worldwide across both physical and digital releases. However, like other Nintendo Switch games with physical copies, the contents of Tears of the Kingdom's standard game case left a lot to be desired. As a result, one fan decided to take matters into their own hands.

On Reddit, an Australian user named FrigginBoomT crafted a wood-carved game case for Tears of the Kingdom and posted their finished work on the r/gaming subreddit. According to FriggenBoomT, the case was made using two rectangular planks of wood that could be held by hand. He used a rotary power tool to carve the Ultrahand ability symbol as well as some Zonai glyphs in the center of the top piece. He then carved some cracks along the case's interior and carved out a rectangular slot for the game card to fit into. The slot itself was lined with some felt to keep the game card safe and secure. Some weathering and sanding techniques were also used to give the wood an aged appearance, and some hinges on both sides of the case kept it all together.

FriggenBoomT's post on r/gaming received over 68k upvotes within a day. Known for his previous carving of a Pokemon card cabinet featuring Rayquaza among other aged-wood products, FriggenBoomT received loads of praise on the post for his latest efforts. While the wood he used to carve this case was not specified, a few comments compared FriggenBoomT's work to the covers of Morrowind and Oblivion from The Elder Scrolls series. At the time of writing, FriggenBoomT stated that he is open for commissions.

While other wooden tributes to The Legend of Zelda series have been done before, such as the King of Red Lions from The Wind Waker, FriggenBoomT's latest creation is a testament to the creativity and dedication of Zelda fans worldwide. With Tears of the Kingdom on pace to be among the best-selling games of all time, only time will tell what fans will create next.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is available now for Nintendo Switch.
