The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom features a diverse cast of characters, monsters and even wild creatures that players will come across on their travels. For players wanting to complete the Hyrule Compendium, they will have to track down all 92 elusive creatures in Tears of the Kingdom.

This can be a massive feat, with different creatures only coming out at certain times of the day, or only living in certain areas. Some of these creatures can be particularly difficult to find, whether that's because they only show up on rare occasions, or there are just so few of them. Here are some of the rarest creatures in Tears of the Kingdom.

8 Ancient Arowana

Tears of the Kingdom Ancient Arrowana

Ancient Arowanas are a rare type of fish in Tears of the Kingdom that can often be found in the Sky Isles. Lakes aren't typically common in the Sky Isles, so players will have to hunt them down. However, in the few spots of water there are in the sky, these fish can be found in abundance.

The Ancient Arowanas are quite skittish, so if players are struggling to catch them, they can throw some Yellow Chu Chu Jelly into the water to kill all the fish quickly. They're excellent for use in cooking dishes as base meat, and, of course, are one of the entries in the Compendium players will need to complete the collection.

7 Fairy

Tears of the Kingdom Fairy

Fairies are one of the rarest, but most valuable, creatures in Tears of the Kingdom. They can usually be found around the Sky Isles, or occasionally in some wells or caves. Unfortunately, fairies are also incredibly skittish, and players wanting to get close, or even catch one, will have to sneak up on them.

However, they're definitely worth the effort. If the player has a fairy in their inventory, they will be protected from their next death. Instead of immediately dying, the fairy will fly out of Link's pocket, and restore some of his hearts.

6 Bubbulfrog

Tears of the Kingdom Bubbulfrog

Bubbulfrogs are adorable, frog-like creatures that can be found in most of the caves throughout Hyrule. Each cave usually has one Bubbulfrog, and once injured, they'll float away and leave behind an incredibly valuable Bubbul Gem. They aren't particularly difficult to defeat, but tracking them down is the problem players often have most.

Bubbulfrogs are certainly worth hunting though, as their Bubbul Gems can be traded for some pretty awesome monster gear. Players who are struggling to find caves can go to the main Cherry Blossom of whatever region they're in, place some fruit under the tree, and the caves in that area will be highlighted for them. This makes it much easier to track these elusive creatures down.

5 Blupee

Tears of the Kingdom Blupee

Blupees are incredibly cute, rabbit-like creatures players will come across sometimes as they explore Hyrule. They're very shy and will bolt whenever they notice Link is around. However, if players can manage to hit a Blupee with any of their weapons, it will drop some Rupees that they can pick up. This can be handy for players who are wanting to make Rupees quickly.

Players can also find Blupees after injuring a Bubbulfrog - the Bubbulfrog will disappear, and a Blupee will appear in its stead, running away and leaving behind a Bubbul Gem.

4 Stalhorse

Tears of the Kingdom Stalhorse

Stalhorses are an awesome horse variant that players can find during the night in certain areas of Hyrule and throughout The Depths. Players lucky enough to find them will be able to mount them just like any other horse and take it on a joyride. They're not very fast, but they can travel over Gloom unaffected, making Stalhorses a great way to cross The Depths.

Unfortunately, these horses are vulnerable to light, meaning they'll disappear when the sun comes up. Additionally, players won't be able to register a Stalhorse at a stable, as they'll simply just end up terrifying the poor stable master.

3 Dondon

Tears of the Kingdom Dondon

Dondons are both astonishingly charming and very important to a certain storyline in Tears of the Kingdom. At the New Serenne Stable, during The Beast and The Princess, players will learn that Zelda has been spotted riding a scary, horned beast in the sub-tropical region in the South. However, when players eventually find their way to the Lakeside Stable, they'll soon find out this wasn't the case at all.

Zelda opened an animal sanctuary to look after these incredibly rare creatures, and players can even go visit them! They're well worth the visit - if not to see their adorable faces, they will eat any spare luminous stones the player has, and will turn them into other, more valuable gems.

2 Golden Horse

Tears of the Kingdom Golden Horse

The Golden Horse in Tears of the Kingdom is truly one of a kind. This horse previously belonged to Zelda, however it ran off after being startled, and the player is left responsible for finding it again. It's certainly worth going to the effort, as the horse has some great statistics, and is a lot faster than most of the wild horses the player will come across. Once the player has managed to catch the Golden Horse, they can take it to a stable and register it as their own.

The Golden Horse is also one of the most unique horses in the game, with an incredibly bold coat that really lives up to its name. Players looking to complete their Compendium should seriously consider hunting this elusive horse down.

1 Giant White Stallion

Tears of the Kingdom Giant White Stallion

The Giant White Stallion undoubtedly lives up to its name. It's one of a kind, and absolutely massive. Players will need to come prepared if they want to capture this horse. There's only one location this wild horse can be found, and that's close to the Lake of the Horse God. Players will first have to sneak up to the steed, and then attempt to tame it.

It's recommended that players wait until they've got at least over two stamina meters, as the Giant White Stallion certainly takes some calming down. However, once they've finally tamed it, players can then go register it to a stable, and add yet another creature to their collection.
