Death's Door, an indie title from developer Acid Nerve and publisher Devolver Digital, was announced in March this year. Today, Death's Door was shown during Devolver Digital's E3 presentation to make another announcement pertaining to the game.

Devolver Digital arrives as part of E3 2021 in a celebration of the publisher's announced and unannounced games. One of the publisher's announced games, Death's Door, is eyeing a release in the near future and has taken its place in Devolver Digital's presentation showcase. But while fans may have already seen Death's Door's announcements a few months ago, the publisher has perhaps chosen to showcase the game to increase excitement and notify fans of a pre-order bonus.

A new trailer has arrived for Death's Door from publisher Devolver Digital, bringing players gameplay that demonstrates combat and NPC interactions in unique environments. Death's Door has a visual and gameplay appeal most similar to The Legend of Zelda's dungeon crawling, with regions that seemingly require puzzle-based platforming while engaging with enemies using quick slashes. Death's Door's protagonist, a Crow, can be seen traversing the Doors and interacting with many interesting characters.

Death's Door appears whimsical and fantastical in the same ways that The Legend of Zelda games often are, with touches of humor and mystery in its fantasy tale. Devolver Digital's presentation trailer showcases a great breadth of melee, ranged, and magic combat. For example, the trailer depicts the Crow obtaining a Discarded Umbrella item that becomes a melee weapon of its own.

Death's Door is described as an RPG, and it will be interesting to see how the progression system develops throughout the game and across enemy designs. Traversal through environments appears to be performed through grapples that help the player cross gaps and chasms, or by activating platforms that move players precariously through environments. It is uncertain at the moment whether the game falls in line with a Metroidvania progression system or if environments are open for the player to freely roam.

Devolver Digital's Death's Door trailer also announces a pre-order update for the game, which is releasing in just under a month for PC and Xbox. Devolver Digital has since revealed that players may receive 15% off today from Steam and Xbox through their pre-order. As a result, fans who have waited for a pre-order window or more information about the game have a great incentive to be excited for Death's Door.

Death's Door is currently slated to release for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on July 20.
