The Legend of Zelda is one of the most popular video game franchises of all time. While many games in the series have been successful, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is considered by many fans to be the best installment, which is still incredibly popular after five years since it released alongside the Nintendo Switch. A lot of Zelda fans have been waiting for Breath of the Wild's untitled sequel to come out, but due to it being delayed for a Spring 2023 release, some are hoping that a classic game in the series, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD, will come to the Switch instead.

A video released earlier in which Eiji Aonuma, The Legend of Zelda's producer, revealed that Breath of the Wild's highly anticipated sequel will now release in Spring 2023 instead of later this year as previously announced. While many fans of the series are happy with the game coming out in 2023 so Nintendo has time to make it the best it can be, there are some fans hoping that a Switch port of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD will come out later this year.

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker is a game that released in 2002 on the GameCube. Due to its cartoonish art style, fun gameplay, and interesting plot, it became a lot of fans' favorite game in the series. A remaster of the game, known as The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD, released on the Wii U in 2013, which was enjoyed by both fans of the original game and newcomers. Unfortunately, the game isn't available on the Switch, and due to the Wii U's eshop closing soon, fans were already hoping that Nintendo would port the remake to its newest hybrid console.

Seeing as how The Wind Waker HD is such a popular title in the series, many gamers have been wanting to play it on the go since the Switch released, as they weren't able to do so on the consoles the game has been on. With Breath of the Wild's sequel not coming out this year, some of them have more hope now to play The Wind Waker HD than they have in the past.

Another popular video game in the franchise that players have been hoping would be ported to the Switch is The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. It originally released on the GameCube and Wii in 2006, and received a remaster, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD, in 2016 for the Wii U, similar to The Wind Waker HD. Fans are hoping that ports of both of these games would release last year, for the franchise's 35th anniversary, but the only port that came was The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD. Gamers hope that ports of these older titles will come to the Switch soon.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild's sequel is coming out in Spring 2023 for the Switch.
