Few Nintendo franchises have become more popular than the Legend of Zelda. Over the decades, numerous games featuring Link have been released, with many of these installments in the Zelda series selling incredibly well. Due to this popularity, many fans often make artwork based on characters and objects from the franchise. One of the more noteworthy objects that fans often make fan art based on is Majora’s Mask from The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask.
First released on the Nintendo 64 in 2000, Majora’s Mask was the second 3D Zelda title to launch on the system. As the name suggests, the story features a magical mask called Majora’s Mask that possesses a Skull Kid, which then proceeds to terrorize Termina. Recently, one fan decided to make fan art to pay tribute to this terrifying mask.
Taking to Reddit, a user known as Acerk93 shared several pictures of a recent project they had completed based on The Legend of Zelda series. Specifically, they had decided to make a real-life replica of Majora’s Mask. Impressively, the artist managed to copy many of the details seen in its in-game counterpart. For instance, the mask featured the vivid colors of Majora's Mask and even had its iconic spikes around the edges.
In addition to revealing this Majora's Mask artwork in a picture, Acerk93 provided details about how they made the mask in the comments section. According to the creator, they crafted the replica for their partner. In addition, they revealed that the Majora's Mask was composed of cardboard with layers of paper mache and clay on top of it. To finish the design, they then used acrylic paint to color the object.
Since posting this incredible real-life replica of Majora’s Mask to Reddit, numerous members of the Zelda community have commented on the design. In addition, the mask has garnered more than 700 upvotes in only a day. Among the comments, many applauded the detail seen in the replica made by the creator. Furthermore, one fan said that the mask looked so good that it was frightening. Fortunately, Acerk93 responded by saying, “I promise I won’t put it on! Haha.”
It is often impressive to see what new artwork talented members of The Legend of Zelda community have created. In addition to this detailed replica of Majora’s Mask, other talented artists have been making fan art based on the series. For example, one gamer recently reimagined what the world of Breath of the Wild would look like as a SNES-style title screen. It will be interesting to see what talented fans such as Acerk93 come up with in the coming days.
The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask is available now for Nintendo 64 and Switch through the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack, and an enhanced port is available on 3DS.
