Fans are waiting to see what Nintendo has in store for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2, but it looks like they may be kept waiting longer than expected: a new report claims that the game won't release until at least 2021. The information comes from an industry insider and journalist, Sabi, who has proved to be a credible source in the past--though of course, this Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 information is still just a rumor.

Breath of the Wild 2 was officially announced last year during E3 2019, and Nintendo is keeping things under wraps, for the most part, hardly revealing anything about the upcoming title except for a few behind-the-scenes images, though perhaps that'll change at this year's E3. Either way, "industry insider" rumors are the only guestimates right now as to the game's release window, and even then it's pretty broad.

Originally, it appeared that Sabi had heard from another industry insider who claimed that the game could be could as soon as 2020, but now the journalist has found another source whose information outright contradicts the previous claim, suggesting that Breath of the Wild 2 won't be out for another year after that.

Writing about Breath of the Wild 2's release date, Sabi reported on Twitter that "I have not had a follow up from the 2020 source, as I haven’t requested they look into it since last October. However, another extremely reputable source has heard more cynical things of it not being until next year." Considering the new information goes against previous (also unconfirmed) intel, it should most definitely be taken with a grain of salt, even though Sabi does seem confident in the new source.

Maybe this information is true, and maybe it isn't, but it's at least clear that Nintendo is being very selective with revealing its Breath of the Wild 2 details. It'd certainly make sense for the game to be slated for a late 2020 or 2021 release since there's hardly anything to know about yet. Instead, as Sabi reports, Nintendo supposedly planning to release a game from another major franchise during the holidays in lieu of Breath of the Wild 2, and it's one that fans will probably find surprising.

Whether or not this is Nintendo's actual plan remains to be seen; if fans can reign in their curiosity for a few months until the next E3, there's a good chance that their curiosity about the sequel (which is apparently even darker than Majora's Mask) will be satisfied.
