Nintendo is expected to reveal the official name for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild's highly anticipated sequel at the upcoming Nintendo Direct. Nintendo Switch fans have been begging Nintendo for more information regarding the mysteriously absent Breath of the Wild sequel. When Breath of the Wild 2 arrives in 2023, it will be the longest time ever between main-series Zelda releases. At the very least, new Zelda news should be coming very soon. This past week, reports went out that a planned Nintendo Direct that would air very soon had been delayed due to the death of Great Britain's Queen Elizabeth II. A follow-up report then confirmed that the Nintendo Direct, delayed or not, would be released this upcoming week. The reported plan is for the show to air either on Tuesday or Wednesday, ahead of the start of the Tokyo Game Show convention on Thursday.RELATED: Retro Studios Once Pitched a Zelda Spin-Off Game to Nintendo Called Heroes of HyruleNew details about this Nintendo Direct have since been reported. In a livestream from Giant Bomb's Jeff Grubb, sources reportedly confirmed that several Zelda-related announcements were planned for the Nintendo Direct. The biggest announcement will be the unveiling of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2's actual name, just like how The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask has its own name even though it's a follow-up to The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

It may seem odd that the Breath of the Wild sequel has yet to have its name confirmed yet, though it would make sense if Nintendo's simply holding it back to capitalize on the success of the Breath of the Wild branding. That may or may not be contributory, but one reason Nintendo has said the new Zelda game's title is being held back is that it contains plot hints. One rumored title of particular note is The Legend of Zelda: Breath of Duality, which has led to significant speculation among the fan base.

A name for the Breath of the Wild sequel isn't the only Zelda news reported to be planned for the upcoming Nintendo Direct. There's also news expected regarding the Wii U Zelda games receiving HD ports for the Nintendo Switch. That would include both The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker and The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.

To be clear, while Grubb's reporting is reliable on this subject, it's also not a certainty. A Nintendo Direct has not been officially announced yet, let alone one with Zelda announcements. Grubb has also been reporting that this Nintendo Direct has been coming since January 2022. This will be the first full Nintendo Direct since then. Barring further delays or changes in plans, Nintendo fans will hopefully hear news about a Nintendo Direct and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 soon.
