Ever since its official reveal at E3 2019, the sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has been at the forefront of many fans' minds. While all that is officially known of the game is its initial reveal trailer, fans did receive an update earlier this year from Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma himself, who stated that while they had nothing new to share, progress on the game was going smoothly.

Although many are looking forward to the release of The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD on the Switch this July, fans have not forgotten about Breath of the Wild 2. Rumors and supposed leaks about the game have continued to swirl since its release, and have only become even more prevalent as E3 2021 approaches, but now, a credible leaker has a rather bittersweet update for fans.

Many have been incredibly hopeful that Breath of the Wild 2 will release this year, but it seems that prominent games insider and leaker Zippo is inclined to believe otherwise. The leaker claims that out of all of Nintendo's titles in development before the COVID-19 pandemic, the Breath of the Wild sequel was hit the hardest, but that goes without saying that fans may finally learn more about the game at E3.

Zippo clarifies that despite being hit hard by the pandemic, the upcoming title is very close to completion. Nintendo is certainly not a company known for rushing its games, so it seems understandable that despite nearing completion, some extra polishing work and whatnot may be performed just in case. Despite this unfortunate news, Zippo seems confident that Nintendo will finally be ready to pull back the curtains on Breath of the Wild 2 at E3 next month. The leaker sees Nintendo potentially revealing tons of new info on the game to the press and public, even with a possible Spring 2022 release date attached.

While Zippo is known to have insider information, it's important to note that some of their words are simply predictions based on rumor rumblings or other knowledge. Other leaks have claimed to know aspects like Breath of the Wild 2's title, release date, and more, though this general information from Zippo may prove to be even more exciting for fans who are hoping for the slightest glimmer of news on the game.

Aside from the Zelda sequel, Nintendo fans are hopeful to see news on other upcoming titles like Metroid Prime 4, Splatoon 3, and Bayonetta 3. And with an all-new, all-virtual E3 experience just about a month away now, fans are more than eager to see what Nintendo has in store.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 is in development for Nintendo Switch.
