2019 has seen its fair share of great video game trailers, but few trailers made fans lose their minds with excitement quite like the one confirming the existence of what’s currently known as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2. After 2017’s Breath of the Wild cemented its status as one of the most critically-acclaimed games ever, it’s no shock that people are excited for a direct sequel, especially in a series that rarely does direct sequels.

Sadly, we probably won’t be getting Breath of the Wild 2 anytime soon, but Nintendo is offering whatever snippets of information it can share. The latest of these comes courtesy of the company’s Japanese recruitment website. Included there are a multitude of interesting pieces of developmental screenshots and concept art for its premiere Switch games, such as Splatoon 2, Super Mario Odyssey, and, of course, the original Breath of the Wild.

But the most interesting is easily a selection of behind-the-scenes images for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2’s reveal trailer. The images, which focus on the shot from the trailer of Link’s arm being infused with a mysterious green light, show the steps of its creation, depicting its evolution from rough storyboard to motion capture mockup to  animation using the Maya animation software.

From the little that we have to go on presently, it’s clear that the sequel will be very much a continuation of what the first game started. This is most clearly evident in the fact that Breath of the Wild 2 will take place on the same map as Breath of the Wild 1, which, according to series producer Eiji Aonuma, is being done out of a desire to expand that version of Hyrule with all of the ideas the development team had that were too big for the first game and its DLC.

Being as the wait for a Breath of the Wild sequel will likely remain a lengthy one, fans can only speculate about what the game will offer for the time being and ponder the things they’d like to see in Breath of the Wild 2. For example, it’d be well-received by fans if Princess Zelda, after getting a more prominent role in the first game, graduated all the way to being a playable character in the sequel. With any luck, though, Nintendo won’t keep us waiting too long for substantial new information on things like this.
