Zack Snyder has a new deal with Netflix in place and it appears he's moving fast to try and get his first project under the agreement cast. While he continues to work on his Army of the Dead sequel for the streaming platform, he's also got scored The Mummy star Sofia Boutella to play the lead in another upcoming film, Rebel Moon.

Following the success of the first Army of the Dead and then Army of Thieves, Snyder signed a new overall deal with Netflix. Soon after the ink was dry on the new contract, the famed writer, director, and producer announced the first project his Stone Quarry production company would work on under the deal would be a science-fiction epic titled Rebel Moon.

Deadline reports that Snyder has spent the last several months meeting with actors and actresses in order to try and fill parts for the Netflix film. Sources told the publication that after Snyder met with Boutella he was "blown away" and realized she needed to be cast as the lead actress. While Snyder has compared Rebel Moon to Man of Steel, this one doesn't have a ton in common with his other Netflix pics. Boutella will play a young woman who has a mysterious past and lives on a colony towards the edge of the galaxy. Life in that colony is relatively peaceful until the area is threatened by the armies of the Regent Balisarius. Boutella's character is then dispatched to recruit warriors who will fight against the invading force.

Boutella first rose to prominence when she starred as Gazelle in the first Kingsman movie. The character was a henchwoman to Samuel L. Jackson's Valentine who walked on two prosthetic legs that doubled as razor-sharp swords. The actress then made herself more well known to science-fiction and horror fans by playing Ahmanet, a.k.a. The Mummy, in the 2017 reboot of that particular franchise. She's also appeared as Jaylah in Star Trek: Beyond and is working on another sci-fi project entitled Settlers.

Snyder's Stone Quarry has not yet said when Rebel Moon is coming to Netflix, though the speed at which he's said to be moving could mean a late 2022 or early 2023. The production company also just saw Army of Thieves launch on the streaming service last weekend and is also working on the anime spinoff Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas and a Norse mythology series Twilight of the Gods for the platform.

Rebel Moon is currently in pre-production.
