As many fans eagerly await the release of Zack Snyder's Justice League next month, Snyder himself is already looking ahead to his next project. The director himself has stated that he is currently working on a "faithful" new version of the King Arthur legend.

While speaking to the I Minutemen about the upcoming release of Justice League, Snyder was asked about his desire to tackle medieval or mythological movies. The director confirmed his interest and went on to say, "I've been thinking about some kind of retelling, like, [a] real sort of faithful retelling of that Arthurian mythological concept. We'll see. Maybe that will come at some point."

The legend of King Arthur is a story that has been told many times in movies over the years. Most recently, Guy Ritchie attempted a new big-budget take on the tale with 2017's King Arthur: Legend of the Sword starring Charlie Hunnam. That movie ended up being a box office bomb, resulting in many critics questioning the public's interest in the legendary character.

It sounds like the project is very much in its early stages and might never actually happen. However, that is just one of a few projects Snyder currently has on the go. The release of his original vision of Justice League has been one of the most talked-about movies in recent memory. Following the huge online demand for the project, it is finally set to hit theaters and HBO Max in March 2021. Later this year, he will be delivering the zombie action movie Army of the Dead starring Dave Bautista, which will debut on Netflix.

Given how many King Arthur movies there have been, it is hard to get excited about yet another attempt to bring this story to the big screen. It's difficult to imagine how the very well-known tale could be told any differently. And given the many differing takes on the legend, it's hard to understand what Snyder means by a "faithful" retelling of the story.

But as familiar as it is, Snyder is a filmmaker whose movies do raise considerable excitement among fans. Perhaps with someone like him tackling the material, there would be more interest in it this time around. It also feels like a good fit for Snyder as even his take on Superman and Batman has a mythological feel.

Zack Snyder's Justice League will be released exclusively on HBO Max on March 18, 2021.
