Director Zack Snyder is calling on his fans to offer them an exclusive preview of his upcoming zombie flick Army of the Dead. With just a week left before the film hits select theaters, Netflix and Snyder have upped the campaigning for the movie and before it arrives on the streaming service, a select few will be able to watch the first 15 minutes of the film.

On Twitter, Netflix shared a 15-second clip inviting fans to “unlock the first 15 minutes of the Army of the Dead.” With no other details provided, Twitter users were simply asked to retweet the message from Netflix to receive information on their mission, which will apparently require some digging. Those who enter will be sent a link to a livestream scheduled for Thursday, May 13, which is when the exclusive footage will be revealed.

The campaign was teased by Snyder on Thursday when he posted a cryptic tweet that simply read, “#ArmyOfTheDead news coming tomorrow…,” along with a short clip of an underground vault. It is already known that Army of the Dead will focus on a group of mercenaries going on a heist in zombie-infested Las Vegas, but fans are now forming a connection between the focus on the underground vault and Snyder’s latest tweet about having to “do some digging.” It has gotten fans wondering if the first 15 minutes of the film will explain why the unique breed of undead is rising from their graves.

Snyder had run a similar campaign before the official Army of the Dead trailer had released. Fans had to crack the codes to achieve a hidden URL that allowed them access to the preview event. Some fans joked that they were unable to join the event because they weren’t smart enough to crack the code and requested the director to keep it simple this time around. Those who do succeed this time will be able to watch never-before-seen footage from the much-awaited film a week before its premiere on Netflix.

Earlier this week, Netflix confirmed that Army of the dead is opening in cinemas a week before subscribers of the streaming service can watch it. This marks the widest theatrical release yet for a Netflix movie, with the film set to premiere in around 600 theaters on May 14.

The upcoming movie also marks Snyder’s return to his zombie apocalypse roots. His directorial debut, Dawn of the Dead, which released in 2004 and reimagined George A. Romero's classic film of the same name, told the story of a group of survivors struggling to defend themselves against a large horde of zombies.

Army of the Dead releases in theaters on May 14 and premieres on Netflix on May 21, 2021.
