Publisher Dotemu recently announced on Twitter that the classic action role-playing game Ys Origin will be coming to the Nintendo Switch sometime in 2020. Players will be able to download the digital version via the Nintendo eShop, and a physical edition will also be available for a limited time through distributor Limited Run.

Fans will also be able to get their hands on a collector’s edition for $70 from Limited Run. It will come with the Ys Origin physical game cartridge, a soundtrack on CD, art book, 18” x 24” reversible poster, and the official Switch steelbook case. Both the standard and collector's editions are already open for pre-order, but orders must be placed by Sunday, September 6.

Ys Origin serves as a prequel to the previous eight installments in the series and takes place 700 years before the events of Ys 1: Ancient Ys Vanished. The game follows three playable characters, each with a unique story that provides a different point of view of events, as they venture into Darm Tower to find the protective twin Goddesses Reah and Feena who mysteriously disappeared in the night.

Developed by Nihon Falcom and originally released on PC in 2006, the game received an English-language localization via publisher XSEED Games in 2012 that was made available on Steam and other online sites. The game can currently be purchased for 75% off during the Steam Summer Sale, but only for a very limited time.

Ys Origin is available in PC, PS4, Vita, Xbox One, and will be released on Switch in 2020.
