Successful Twitch and YouTube content creators are known for spending their earnings on sometimes enviable things, usually super powerful PC rigs, fancy cars, extravagant houses, or generous philanthropic endeavors. A February 2022 study estimated how much money Twitch streamers earn per hour and, while most of the top earners sit comfortably around the $800 per hour mark, a couple pass a jaw-dropping $2,000 per hour.

Sometimes the things content creators spend their money on aren’t necessarily practical, but are perhaps more fun. There’s the YouTuber who commissioned a replica of Cloud Strife’s Buster Sword, which weighed an unwieldy 50 pounds and required the additional purchase of an exoskeleton for $900 to help manage the load. A couple of years ago, another YouTuber rented a billboard outside of Treyarch’s offices in Santa Monica, CA, to campaign for a remaster of the Die Rise map from Call of Duty: Black Ops 2. That was paid for with the help of GoFundMe, which raised $5,000.

Few PC gamers, even content creators with perhaps a bit of extra cash lying around, can claim to have a cooler gaming setup than Thai YouTuber Bankii. A devoted fan of Cloud Imperium Games’ space trading and combat sim Star Citizen, Bankii shelled out $30,000 to construct a gaming room designed to resemble the game's Crusader Hercules spaceship. The room is truly impressive and, though the video is in Thai, closed captioning is provided for English speakers who want to know all the details.

To start, Bankii’s spaceship is accessed through automatic sliding doors and, upon entering, it almost feels like stepping into the future. Nearly $900 worth of LED strips give the room that glowing sci-fi aesthetic, but what truly makes it seem like a spaceship is the cockpit area, where three 65-inch TVs are displayed horizontally to give the impression of looking through a giant windshield. Alongside a steering wheel and joystick, a 49-inch curved monitor is set into the desktop in front of the TVs, and this acts as a dashboard for flying and racing games like Forza Horizon 5, complete with simulated dials, knobs, and blinking lights.

Everything inside the spaceship, including the gaming chairs, mouse, and headset is a pristine white to match the futuristic theme. There is also a secondary seating area with another computer that is presumably used for more logistical applications like video editing, playing music, and so forth. And because Bankii will likely be spending hours on end playing games inside the spaceship, the Star Citizen-themed room even has a kitchen area with a microwave, hot plate, electric kettle, and lots of cabinet space for snacks. Overall, Bankii’s custom-made futuristic gaming room is one that many people would probably splurge on if they could.

Star Citizen is currently available on PC.
