5G is relatively new consumer technology that offers faster internet speeds than what was previously possible on mobile devices. However, like with any new technology, some have been worried or downright suspicious of the tech, so much so that some have blamed 5G for the current coronavirus pandemic.

While scientists and government officials have insisted that the claims aren't valid, as the pandemic is caused by a known virus and nothing else, that hasn't stopped those who think otherwise from producing video content trying to convince others. Now YouTube has stepped up to help prevent these videos from being discovered.

Although YouTube refrained from outright deleting the videos, it has instead effectively throttled their spread. 5G coronavirus videos will no longer be recommended as often to viewers on YouTube, which will help to keep those videos from being discovered unless someone is searching for them outright.

Of course, YouTube isn't the only way for anti-5G groups to spread their ideas. Similar videos have been popping up all over Facebook, and have likely been shared on other social media networks as well. Google likely felt some pressure to hide the videos after UK cell towers were recently set on fire, but it remains to be seen if the majority of other social networks will take similar action.
