The newest phase of the MCU has introduced scores of new characters; heroes, villains, and everything in between. Audience members who are familiar with the comics get especially excited to see familiar characters brought to life on screen. As TV shows for Phase 4 began airing and casting announcements for movies and shows alike have been released, these knowledgeable fans began to notice the members of a certain superhero group were being gathered: the Young Avengers.

The Young Avengers are a group of teen and young adult superheroes that were introduced in their own Marvel comics series in 2006. Most of these characters were related to or mentored by members of the original Avengers, and they came together to form their own superhero team. The series proved to be very popular and fans have been hoping to see them brought into the MCU for a long time.

Most of the Young Avengers team has been introduced or is confirmed to soon be introduced into the MCU. In WandaVision, Wanda gives birth to twin boys, Billy and Tommy. Billy has inherited Wanda's sorcery and reality manipulation powers, while Tommy has super-speed just like his late uncle Pietro. In the comics, Billy and Tommy become two major members of the Young Avengers; Wiccan and Speed, respectively. Although the twins disappear in the WandaVision finale, the post-credits scene indicates that they will be making a return to the MCU. The characters will have to be aged up in order to be part of the Young Avengers, but that is certainly possible.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier introduced Elijah Bradley, grandson of the first black super-soldier, Isaiah Bradley. Elijah or "Eli" becomes the Young Avengers member Patriot. While his role in the TV series was not large, the introduction of Elijah itself indicates he could be being set up for future MCU appearances. With Sam Wilson taking on the role of Captain America, Elijah could be inspired to take on the role of Patriot. In the comics, Elijah gains super-soldier powers through a blood transfusion from his grandfather, and this could happen in the MCU as well.

Scott Lang's daughter, Cassie Lang, is also a member of the Young Avengers. Cassie has been recast with a more well-known actress for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which suggests she will likely be coming into her hero role. The TV series Hawkeye will co-star Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop, an archer who is mentored by Hawkeye and, in the comics, becomes one of the Young Avengers. Her large role in this series could easily set her up for the same fate. Young Avengers member America Chavez has been cast for Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness. With Wanda's confirmed appearance in that film, it's even possible America could come into contact with the twins.

Another major member of the Young Avengers, Hulkling, has yet to be announced or introduced, but there are many opportunities left to do so. The same could apply for other group members such as Iron Lad or Prodigy. There is even a possibility younger characters who aren't members of the team in the comics could join it in the MCU, such as Ms. Marvel, Ironheart, or Yelena Belova.  The real question is, once all of these characters are introduced, will audiences get to see them team up as the Young Avengers? And if so, in what format?

The original Avengers, of course, first joined forces in 2012's The Avengers. To this day, that movie is one of the most beloved in the MCU. Marvel could hope for a repeat of that magic with a Young Avengers feature film. Since most of the characters will have been introduced in other projects before the film, audiences will already have a sense of who they are and their origins. A feature film could easily function as a contained narrative telling the story of their first battle as a team.

Additionally, the Spider-Man films have proven that a younger cast can hold their own in an action feature film. This is even more doable when much of the audience will already be familiar with the characters and will be excited to see them team up with others their own age. On top of that, there are several LGBTQ characters within the Young Avengers. There have not been many LGBTQ Marvel heroes on the big screen, The Eternals will feature the first to be visibly gay onscreen, and it would be great to see more of them in a movie.

On the other hand, the Disney Plus television shows have been very successful thus far at bringing major MCU characters to television. WandaVisionThe Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and the upcoming Loki and Hawkeye all focus on characters who had previously only been seen on the big screen. A Young Avengers Disney Plus series could pull together characters that had been introduced in both movies and television shows within the MCU.

Marvel's Young Avengers

While most of them will have been previously introduced, there are a lot of characters in the Young Avengers. A television series could allow for more time to focus on each of them, with more character development and more space to explore relationships and character dynamics. Additionally, a television series could cover a longer stretch of time. Within the same project, fans could see more of how the Young Avengers grow as a team both on an emotional level and as heroes. A series would have the time to develop more themes and perhaps take more risks.

There are advantages to both a movie or a TV show starring the Young Avengers. It will be interesting to see if Marvel does one, or both, or even neither. Nothing regarding the Young Avengers has been formally announced or confirmed despite most of the cast being brought into the MCU. Hopefully, a Young Avengers project, whether it be a movie or Disney Plus show, will go into development in the next few years, and fans will be able to see this amazing superhero team in action.
