The Spring release for Playtonic Games‘ upcoming platformer, Yooka-Laylee, is fast approaching and with each passing month the gaming community is treated with sneak peeks as to what kind of fantastical worlds they can expect to visit. The latest trailer shows off the obligatory “snow world,” a popular theme that has been a staple of platforming games for decades. With favorites such as Super Mario 64‘s Cool, Cool Mountain, or even Banjo-Kazooie‘s own Freezeezy Peak being some of the most memorable.
In Yooka-Laylee, Glitterglaze Glacier will take the title characters to a gorgeous winter wonderland fraught with danger and littered with treasures. At its heart lies a stately ivory tower that appears to balance a miniature castle on its head. It’s adorned with stained glass and is topped with blue shingled spires. What the tower contains is a mystery, and is one that is intentionally teased.
In the trailer’s description, Glitterglaze Glacier is declared as, “one of the coolest levels in existence,” and notes that Yooka and Laylee will receive, “a new transformation is on hand to plow through any opposition!” This is a not so subtle nod to the snowplough transformation, which gets a short preview in the video.
Glitterglaze Glacier is the newest level to be revealed since Capital Cashino was shown a few weeks back. Both have displayed a lot of the creativity and humor fans have come to expect from the minds behind the beloved Banjo-Kazooie series.
Eyes have been on this crowdfunding success story, since it was announced two years ago. Over the course of its development, there have been quite a few surprises, including one delay and a cameo by a certain spade carrying knight.
It was recently announced that Yooka-Laylee has gone gold, so the game is officially ready for its Spring debut. Judging by what we’ve seen so far, this platformer is going to make good on its promise to provide an enjoyable, nostalgic romp to those longing for this often neglected gaming genre.
Yooka-Laylee will release on April 11, 2017 for PC, PS4, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One.
