Yellowjackets fans got some good news earlier this year when it was divulged that the Showtime series was getting a second season. However, it turns out that those fans are going to have to wait a while to see Ella Purnell and the rest of the crew return to television.

Yellowjackets follows a group of women soccer players who end up getting stranded and fighting to survive when their plane crashes. The high schoolers have to fight and find a way to survive until rescue comes. The other half of the incredibly popular Showtime series takes place years after the girls were rescued and focus on a few of those girls, who are now all grown up and hiding some secrets from their time in the woods. It should come as no surprise that such a series would leave season 1 with some questions unanswered, but it's going to be a bit before any of those questions get answers.

Earlier this week, co-creators Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson talked to The Wrap about when the show would start production and when fans could expect to see it. It turns out that Yellowjackets season 2 is actually going into production later this month. They added that they think if everything goes as expected and they're able to stick to their schedule, shooting will be done sometime in February of 2023. The showrunners added that the program could air "shortly" after that.

That last bit of info could be good news even if fans will definitely have to wait over a year for Yellowjackets' second season. It depends on what "shortly" means but it's possible that production on the show could move quickly enough that the next installment could air by the summer, rather than the fall. Lyle and Nickerson also said they understand that some fans might be more than a little anxious to see the next season of Yellowjackets considering its interesting story and vibe. They said that "no one" wanted to get the show back on the air quickly more than they did. However, the schedule is what it is at this point.

At least part of the reason why it's taken a bit longer for Yellowjackets season 2 to air is because everyone involved wanted to make sure it was as good as it could possibly be. Both showrunners were quick to point out they didn't want to run the risk of season 2 not being as good as the first season of Yellowjackets.

Yellowjackets season 2 is expected to land on Showtime sometime in 2023.
