Nintendo of America announces its intentions to release a standalone green Yarn Yoshi, previously only available through the Yoshi's Wooly World bundle.

With the purchase of Yoshi's Wooly World being the only way to get their hands on the exclusive green Yarn Yoshi amiibo, many fans and collectors were upset at Nintendo's marketing strategy. With a mixed bag of reviews, purchasing the game to add the amiibo to their collection did not appeal to everyone. In response to these complaints, the wooly Yoshi will be getting its own standalone release in the US.

Nintendo of America made the announcement on Twitter yesterday, stating that the Yoshi's Wooly World amiibo would be released separately on the 13th of November. It will be joining the blue and pink Yarn Yoshi amiibo which are already available as standalone purchases. There will also be a large green Yarn Yoshi coming exclusively to Toys R Us on the 15th of November.

Yoshi Standalone Wooly

The Yarn amiibo all serve a purpose in Yoshi's Wooly World; pressing the Yarn Yoshi to the Wii U gamepad will assist the player by adding a second Yoshi to the game that can be used to help attack enemies or cross long chasms. These aren't the only amiibo that interact with the game however as a number of standard amiibo including Mario and Donkey Kong can be used to unlock additional skins for your in-game Yoshi.

Amiibo have been a huge success for Nintendo and in the last fiscal year, helped the company turn a profit for the first time in five years. The figures have proved irresistible to many collectors which is good news as Nintendo's Wii U and 3DS consoles continue to struggle in sales, missing their targets by hundreds of thousands of units.

Amiibo have been in such high demand that several of them are nearly impossible to get hold of. Nintendo fans who are looking to add the green Yarn Yoshi to their collection may need to preorder the wooly figure now in order to secure their purchase. The recent Walmart-exclusive Gold Mario amiibo sold out instantly online - within 15 minutes of appearing on the store's website and can now be found for around four times its original price on ebay.
