Twitch streamer xQc is back in the news. After recently taking to Twitter with an opinion on C9 Ziqo's recent 7 day suspension, the opinionated French-Canadian streamer is making headlines for a good cause. While xQc often finds himself in the middle of something controversial, in this case he is reaching out to his followers with some advice on what to do with donations and subscriptions usually sent his way.
In 2020, xQc became one of the most watched streamers, sitting atop a number of lists alongside other giants of the streaming world like Pokimane and Valkyrae. This surge in popularity puts xQc into the spotlight, and with that comes increased scrutiny over his antics. Despite often crossing the line in-game or on Twitter, he is capable of showing his good side.
On a recent Twitch stream, xQc started talking about reasons why people should donate or subscribe to his channel and whether it is actually worth it. Telling his fans that if they're subscribed to him just for the heck of it, not because they get any value out of his content, then they should invest their money elsewhere. He goes on to point out that there are a lot of small streamers out there where a few subs could make a big difference. While Twitch often gets bogged down in petty feuds, sometimes nice things happen, like when streamer CouRage donated $5,000 to 10 streamers doing charity streams over the holidays.
The push for positivity from xQc seems a little out of character, as the often brash streamer is known for stirring up trouble, like he did last month on the Offline TV Rust server. When a number of streamers picked up Rust, xQc was making enemies daily on the server with accusations of stream sniping and an aggressive style of play that put off many of the participants.
After taking grief for his play in the PvP environment of Rust, xQc showed that he could play nice when the game shifted to more role-playing elements. The streamer played the part of attorney to a fellow streamer in a mock court case on the Offline TV server, showing that he doesn't always have to be starting trouble.
Twitch is a strange place where toxicity can infect a channel and spread throughout. It is also a place where really great things can happen, like the Awesome Games Done Quick speedrun event for charity, or when streamer Lilypichu gave gifts to fans to encourage more positivity in 2021. And with xQc, sometimes even those who seem to embrace the villain role show they're human after all.
