A platform that has viewers from all over the globe, a number of people are able to make a living from live streaming through the company. While there are many benefits to this type of work, not everything about the job is easy. Popular streamer xQc has found this out and plans to make changes to his channel's donation system.
Twitch star xQc is an extremely popular streamer that blends humor with high-level gameplay. Formerly a professional Overwatch player, he has since become a full-time streamer. Known for playing a variety of games over the years such as Minecraft, GTA 5, and many others, his streams often change from comedy to rage depending on the situation. With such a combustible personality, he has managed to gain a wide fan base with over 73.2 million total hours watched in Quarter 1 of 2021 on Twitch.
With so many fans tuning in to watch the Twitch streamer, donations are a common occurrence. However, xQc has revealed that these donations often impact his stream in a negative way. When the streamer receives a donation, the donor is then able to send a text-to-speech message that is seen/heard on the livestream. While these messages provide the fans an opportunity to connect with xQc, many are beginning to abuse the system and spam messages.
In an attempt to remedy the issue, xQc is considering increasing donation costs. By doing this, he hopes to stop spam messages that detract from his streams. While this price increase could decrease the amount of money the streamer makes each month, this doesn’t seem to be an issue for him. Known for his outspoken views, he wants Twitch viewers to donate to smaller streamers instead of himself. According to the streamer, this move would not only encourage viewers to donate to other streamers that need the money, but it would also “filter the quality” of messages he receives while live.
Twitch and xQc have been in the news a lot recently. Only a few days ago, the steamer was banned from the platform for a short time. Besides the news regarding xQc, a number of Twitch streamers are planning a 1 day strike against the company on Septemer 1. This is in response to hate raids that continue to adversely impact a number of streamers across the platform. Through this strike against Twitch, streamers hope to make the company crackdown on the problems hurting the platform.
