Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness continued the time and dimension-bending storyline that the MCU is currently pursuing, a context in which newcomer America Chavez plays a vital role, something actor Xochitl Gomez knows fully as she expressed during a recent interview.

America Chavez, also known as Miss America in the Comics, is a relatively new addition to Marvel’s superhero roster with the character only being introduced in 2011 and joining the Young Avengers in 2013, possessing the rare milestone of being the first Latin-American and openly gay superhero. Although those very characteristics ultimately prevented the Doctor Strange sequel from screening in some countries, America's ability to travel across realities makes her a key asset for any future Avengers team-ups.

In an exclusive interview with Collider, Gomez commented on where the character currently stands, explaining that “she's getting over her trust issues, obviously. And I feel like she just needs a place to call home and she needs some discipline and structure in her life.” in reference to how she was last seen training at Kamar-Taj. Despite her impressive powers, much of Doctor Strange 2 revolves around America's lack of control over her abilities something she’ll need to master since according to Gomez “she has the qualities to be an amazing leader”, though is not clear how that will fit in the wider MCU.

The actor nodded to being left in Wong’s custody as part of America’s character arc, where she’ll undoubtedly hone her skills, but the fact that Wong is everything Marvel nowadays increases the prospects that fans will get to see her again sometime soon. While traditionally America Chavez is mostly tied to the Young Avengers, Marvel Studios is yet to announce any plans for that particular group in the Multiverse Saga.

That is not to say there aren’t pieces of the Young Avengers scattered around in the MCU as of now, but with the way Phase Four has been handled, Marvel’s plans are not as crystal clear as they were in the past. Whether America Chavez could get her own spinoff in the future is a mystery, though it’s likely she would need to show mastery over her powers before becoming a key piece in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars, giving Disney 3 years to sort that out.

More than anything, America Chavez gains extra relevance in the MCU because of the cosmic nature of her powers, a key component in most of the stories now laid out, even if her costume suggests she's more of a street-level hero like Daredevil or friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.
