Aside from having the proper party member lineup, level requirements, items, accessories, gems, Arts, etc., players can gain an even greater combat advantage by knowing how to Cancel Attacks, especially when paired with certain items/gems. After reading this, players will feel much stronger than before once they've mastered this technique.

Canceling Attacks

Canceling attacks is a method of shortening the animation of an art by using basic attacks. Using a basic attack right before using an Art will allow you to perform a Cancel Attack. The Timing is extremely important here because it has to be executed flawlessly for it to work properly.

Canceling Attacks may not seem like a big deal, but they are vital to success when challenging certain bosses later in the game. Players will sometimes have bigger battles and need to keep count of Xenoblade's enemies.

There will also be bosses that have extremely high dodge and or block rates occasionally, which can make some battles overwhelming. Even if players can dish out a lot of damage, if the attack doesn't land on the enemy, then it won't matter how much damage players are capable of dealing.

This is where Canceling attacks comes into play. Combined with certain items, Canceling attacks can make Arts impossible to be blocked or dodged. Against enemies with high Agility or Block Rate, it's a game changer. Without this technique, certain enemies will be very difficult or impossible to defeat. However, players can find out which items they'll need further in this guide.

Accessories

When it comes to Canceling Attacks, Chaotic Memory is the perfect Accessory for players looking to make the most out of it.

This item makes it so players' Arts can't be blocked or evaded if they were done using the canceling method. Against enemies who will normally dodge 70%+ of attacks with ease, the Chaotic Memory makes the world of a difference. However, as powerful as this item is, it's also niche since it's unnecessary to use it against enemies that can be hit with ease.

Other accessories will prove more useful to do other things such as increasing damage output, Critical Damage, Block Rate, or even increasing Healing values. However, Canceling Arts will always be useful, regardless of what accessory is equipped, due to it adding fluidity to combos and increasing players' damage output by shortening Art animations. The faster players can do another art, the more damage they're capable of dealing.

Gems

Some gems can boost specific stats dramatically. When it comes to Canceling Attacks, the gem that is the best for this is Empowered Combo. This gem increases damage dealt by up to 75% when maxed.

This is one of the other main reasons why Canceling Attacks should be something that is practiced often and mastered. The value of this gem is nearly unmatched in the damage department, allowing players to dish out some of the highest numbers they will ever deal.

Bosses & Superbosses

Xenoblade Chronicles 3

When going against bosses that are mainly difficult due to their HP, Defense, or Attack, players can find success with certain accessories. Silver Belts are great for bonus damage percentage on enemies.

Optical Headband is wonderful for bonus Critical Damage percentage. However, if the bosses are harder to deal damage to due to Agility or Block Rate, Canceling Attacks are especially helpful when combined with Chaotic Memory and Empowered Combo.

Superbosses are also susceptible to Canceling Attacks as well. Players probably won't face one until after about 80 hours of gameplay. However, they also fall under the same rules as regular bosses; they're just extremely more challenging in every way.

The earlier this skill is learned and honed against bosses in the game, the better for players in the long run. Players can't go wrong with canceling every Art because there are no cons to doing so. It may be a bit tricky to master at first, but with enough practice, the rewards will definitely be worth it, and players will be glad that they put in the effort to master such a great technique.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is available on Nintendo Switch.
