Following the confirmation that a new Nintendo Direct presentation would be arriving today, it seemed obvious that the company would want to touch upon one of the biggest games it has releasing for the Nintendo Switch this year, Xenoblade Chronicles 2. The publisher didn't disappoint on that front, dropping a number of details about how the JRPG will function and (more importantly) when Switch owners can expect to get their hands on the finished product.

According to Nintendo, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 will arrive exclusively for the Switch on December 1, 2017. This means that Nintendo and developer Monolith Soft plan on making good on statements made at E3 2017 to release Xenoblade Chronicles 2 during this holiday season, along with plenty of accompanying footage to show off how far along the project has come since its initial reveal earlier this year.

Those hoping to catch a glimpse of what awaits them in Xenoblade Chronicles 2 can check out new footage and details below:

Not content on just releasing a vanilla SKU of the finished game, Nintendo took the opportunity to announce a collector's edition of Xenoblade Chronicles 2. This version of the title comes packed with a number of collectibles, including a CD featuring the game's soundtrack, a 220-page hardbound art book, and a steel case containing a copy of the game itself – all of which will likely excite fans of Monolith Soft's ongoing Xeno franchise.

Meanwhile, those looking for a little more practicality from their collectibles can snag a Xenoblade Chronicles 2-themed Nintendo Switch Pro Controller. Admittedly, this may also appeal to those that simply want a nice looking remote for the console, but it also acts as a fun way for gamers to showcase their fandom whilst playing the actual software in which its design originates.

As anticipation for the game continues to build, it has become clear that Nintendo is banking big on the large-scale RPG to be a success. At least, after bringing the likes of Tetsuya Nomura, the director of Kingdom Hearts 3, to help with the character design of Xenoblade Chronicles 2, it seems apparent that the company has high hopes for the game.

Whether or not those expectations are realized when the title arrives this December remains to be seen, but it's certainly looking like the publisher isn't holding back on anything. That is, with the possible exception of amiibo, but even that may be subject to change in the coming months.
