During the Nintendo Switch presentation, Monolith Soft announces that Xenoblade Chronicles 2 will be making its way to the Big N's upcoming new console.

There were quite a few big announcements made at the 2017 Nintendo Switch presentation, with various details regarding the Big N's upcoming console-handheld hybrid being revealed, as well as the unveiling of a number of exciting new titles such as Super Mario Odyssey. But one of the presentation's most pleasant surprises came from Monolith Soft when the studio pulled the curtain off a brand new trailer that showcased its upcoming new game: Xenoblade Chronicles 2.

Lasting just over 1 minute and 40 seconds, the Xenoblade Chronicles 2 trailer suggests the game will be continuation of the first Xenoblade Chronicles but with what looks to be a new cast. While the trailer doesn't reveal if any characters from the previous titles will make a return, Monolith Soft's upcoming game is certainly shaping up to be quite a visual marvel with a variety of beautiful and futuristic landscapes, as well as a number of interesting fantastical creatures.

As for when fans can expect to revisit the magical Xenoblade world again, no release date was announced in the trailer or by Monolith Soft, so be sure to check out the game's announcement trailer right here in the meantime.

The unveiling of Xenoblade Chronicles 2 comes as a bit of a surprise as it wasn't a game many expected to be revealed for the Switch, but given that it's been nearly seven years since the release of the first Xenoblade Chronicles and how that game itself is one of the greatest JRPGS ever, fans will undoubtedly be excited about what Monolith Soft has to show in the upcoming sequel.

Having said that, with Xenoblade Chronicles 2 being announced just now and the Nintendo Switch set for launch in March, it is unlikely that the game will be completed in time to be released alongside the Big N's new console. Since the first Xenoblade Chronicles was very well-received, and taking into account the words of Shigeru Miyamoto that “a delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad,” fans shouldn't expect Monolith Soft's latest Xenoblade entry to be released until later on in 2017 at the earliest.

With Xenoblade Chronicles 2 in the works, and taking into account that Monolith Soft is helping with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, which is set to be launched alongside Nintendo's upcoming console, it certainly seems like the studio will have a big hand in two big titles that could potentially play a part in the Switch's success throughout 2017.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is scheduled for launch at an unknown date for the Nintendo Switch.
