With XCOM: Chimera Squad getting a surprising announcement this week and even more surprising release date reveal of April 24, series veterans are unbelievably excited to find out more about the tactical standalone spin-off. Luckily, it seems Firaxis is more than happy to accommodate, with the company recently releasing a handful of character-focused trailers that delve deeper into the game's cast of new XCOM soldiers.

For those who didn't see the news earlier this week, Chimera Squad is ditching the classic player-created soldiers of previous games to try out a new system, which will see users taking the mantel of a squad of pre-established soldiers with varying abilities and weapons. The new lineup of trailers looks to flesh out these characters by showing off their origin stories and revealing their individual abilities.

The first is for Blueblood, who's a human gunslinger with precision marksmanship, while the second is for Verge, a psionic based Sectoid who can manipulate enemies. The third trailer is for Godmother, a ranger who specializes in stealth and ambushes, while the fourth and final trailer is for Terminal, who seems to favor support skills and healing items. Each will supposedly have crucial abilities that change the dynamic of every XCOM: Chimera Squad battle.

As fans will know from the footage released a few days ago, it seems like these won't be the only character trailers releasing, with many other soldiers - including a variation of XCOM 2's Viper enemy - featuring in the earlier gameplay overview. Firaxis clearly want to build players up to Chimera Squad's release with some interesting pre-release content.

XCOM: Chimera Squad will launch on April 24 for PC.
