Microsoft's Team Xbox is making significant changes to the user experience on Xbox consoles. These changes include a new "Jump back in" row for quick access to recently played games as well as dedicated tiles for Settings, Store, Search, and My Games & Apps. The aim is to refresh the layout with a new design that doesn't alienate people from the Xbox experience. The experiment will start this week and include a randomly selected group of Xbox Insiders from the Alpha Skip-Ahead ring.

The update will bring changes in layout, design, and ease of access. There will also be new curated and personalized content scrolling down the homepage. These vary from user to user but can be created based on what games the user likes to play or how they could make the most out of their Game Pass subscription.

The UI changes will come available first for Xbox Insiders, who just last week got their hands on a major Xbox Game Pass sharing feature. Microsoft recognizes that it is a significant undertaking and will include experiments with the UI for months to come. It is going to be a slow-and-steady process with iterative changes. The team wants to ensure that the Xbox Home's familiar design isn't going to be disrupted while making quality-of-life changes. The finished product is said to launch in 2023.

According to Microsoft, these changes mean that gamers should experience a more personalized home screen that has faster access to their beloved games. It seems essential that updates do not change the familiar identity of the Xbox homepage, but provide a more fluid and intuitive experience. Team Xbox is also going to take into account top trends and user requests, although it is unlikely that drastic Xbox UI concepts are taken into consideration.

Microsoft released a single screenshot of the changes so far. In the screenshot, the six new "Jump back in" tiles are prominently displayed at the top of the page. Under those are the quick links to the game and app library, Microsoft Store, and Game Pass-related tiles. Lastly, the first selection of tiles includes a Sponsored game. Barely visible under these are the next group of features recently added games to Game Pass. However, there has been other evidence of separate UI changes, too. A screenshot of the Xbox UI's game library surfaced recently and is likely a part of a larger 2023 overhaul of Xbox UI, just like the now announced Xbox Home UI revamp.
