The Xbox One has had a slightly bumpy lifespan, with its original marketing campaign focusing on aspects other than gaming and a lack of exclusive titles. The latter issue may be solved by a new application that allows players to play PC titles on the Xbox One, as long as the PC runs Windows 1o. The app called Rainway is now available in its Beta form and it looks like it could bring a lot to the Xbox One.

The Rainway app is free on the Microsoft Store and lets players enjoy games such as NiohJourneyBeyond Two SoulsShenmue 3, and Detroit: Become Human. The application most likely won't be a game-changer for the Xbox One or sway people on their preferred consoles, but this will bring a lot more content to players who use a PC and an Xbox One.

The Rainway beta works through a Wi-Fi or ethernet connection, although it is noted that for the best performance players should not download games while using the software. The app is a free way to play more games on the console and adding new games to the Xbox roster can only be a good thing. With the Xbox Game Pass providing a great back catalogue of games and this app,  players have plenty to enjoy.

There doesn't seem to be many exclusives on the horizon for the Xbox One or the following generation. While the opportunity to play PC games and old titles will please fans, many will be keen to get new content. Rainway will undoubtedly improve the longevity of the Xbox One, but the future of the franchise will need content of its own in order to attract new audiences as well as retaining its existing fan base.

The Rainway beta is available now and many players will want to see what possibilities the app unlocks. In the meantime, with the next generation of consoles coming out at the end of the year, Microsoft will be working towards creating an impressive launch for the Xbox Series X. Utilizing applications like Rainway and using its Game Pass could allow the Xbox Series X the opportunity to offer a unique package. Whether Microsoft can do this remains to be seen, for now, variety will come through PC games being enjoyed on the console.
