Microsoft is constantly working to better the Xbox infrastructure and a helpful new storage feature will improve the quality of life when gamers are attempting to install new games, apps, etc. The way installs currently work, the Xbox will prompt users to select an alternate drive to put a game or app on if the default one is too full or asks them to delete other data, but the possible change could streamline this process.In the early days of the Xbox Series X/S, a big update overhauled the user interface that was originally carried over from the Xbox One generation, but Microsoft is constantly working on possible improvements for the user experience. Although many veteran Xbox fans have been lamenting the lack of an Xbox 360 blades option for the current-gen machines, others have celebrated the crisp 4K visuals of the updated UI. Once an Xbox Series X/S drive is filled up in the current interface, an alternate one will have to be selected in the storage device management menu, but an addition to the menu that's being tested may make things easier.According to Twitter user Idle Sloth who has leaked things in the past, Xbox has begun a trial for certain users to be able to switch their install destination to one that's called "Let Xbox Decide." Instead of prioritizing one specific drive as the place for games and apps to be installed, using this fresh option will cause the console to figure out which drive has available space, and it will automatically begin downloading the file to it. The drop-down menu that Xbox gamers may see in the future when looking for the new option includes others like internal or external, Xbox One storage, and Xbox 360 and Xbox OG, with the final one being Let Xbox Decide.
Although Let Xbox Decide is being tested on select Xbox Series X/S consoles, it's currently unclear if or when it will be added to all of them through a future patch. Given that September's patch has already been released, it's likely that the soonest the change will be implemented is in October, but it may require more testing before it can roll out. Because Xbox continues to update the Series X/S platform in multiple ways like fixes to party chat that rolled out yesterday, Let Xbox Decide could suddenly appear in the UI of machines around the world.
Many Xbox fans have taken to Idle Sloth's tweet about the new feature to lament that this change has taken so long while expressing enthusiasm, with one suggesting that it will be available to all next month. Another Xbox player also recommended fixing desync issues with the YouTube app on the Microsoft Store which has been an issue for some users of the app since 2020.
