At the Game Awards 2019, Xbox's Phil Spencer took to the stage to reveal the name and design of the company's next-gen console, now officially named Xbox Series X. It's not that surprising that it began to trend online shortly after the fact, but the reason it did is equal parts excitement and hilarity. Many were simply sharing the reveal, expressing hype, but many were also making wild comparisons of the Xbox Series X.

The new Xbox console, as seen below, was showcased in a vertical position, looking very much like a PC tower. The next Xbox controller was also revealed alongside it and includes such changes as an adjustable D-pad and a dedicated share button. Yet, while the Xbox Series X can be used in a horizontal position, advertising it in its vertical position has led many to compare the shape and size to various household items and more.

These Xbox Series X comparisons include, but are not limited to, a refrigerator, a safe, and even a lego. There are more making the rounds, while memes have inevitably begun to pop up about the console. One depicts an ice block from SpongeBob SquarePants in mimicking the vertical design of the console, and there's little doubt more will come out in the coming days.

With some time, it'll be interesting to see how this mixed reception over the console's design moves forward. Many will care more for what the Xbox Series X can do than its name and design, and in that regard, Xbox seems to be on top of things. A recent rumor, if it is to be believed, suggests that the Xbox Series X may perform 5x better than the Xbox One X, yet power without games is nothing.

Intending to not repeat the mistakes of the early Xbox One generation, 15 Xbox studios are currently working on titles for the next-gen console. Furthermore, Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2 is in development for the Xbox Series X, and the game seems impressive to say the least. It remains to be seen how this strong push forward plays out, as only time will tell how everything ultimately plays out.
