The reveal of the Xbox Series X was easily the biggest announcement made at The Game Awards last Thursday night. However, it would appear that the trailer for the Xbox Series X has gone above and beyond for Microsoft, completely dominating the reception for the Xbox One and One X.

This discrepancy in public reception may come from any number of factors, such as the fact that Microsoft's reveal for the Series X at The Game Awards was the only major console reveal of a year filled with rumors. However, the consensus online seems to be that it was the original Xbox One's controversial E3 presentation that may be why the Series is pulling so far ahead.

At the time of writing the Xbox One's reveal trailer had 32,000 likes with 30,000 dislikes, while the Series X has 236,000 likes with 20,000 dislikes on their respective YouTube uploads. Considering the negative response to some of controversial DRM complaints that came with the Xbox One's press conference, it makes sense that the video would have a fairly negative response. However, even when that is taken into consideration the extra 204,000 likes that the Series X has already received over the course of a single weekend, is somewhat surprising.

Fans who have either come to the video from The Game Awards or tuned in after the news broke are clearly much more impressed with the new system than its predecessor, even if fans do keep making fun of the Series X's design. It is possible that this new system might have won over some of the good will that Microsoft had lost with the conference that announced the Xbox One. This could mean a new direction for the console gaming, as that original negativity that swirled around the Xbox One is thought to be the reason that PS4 had pulled so far ahead in the previous generation.

While it simply is speculation that the Xbox Series X's warm reception and early reveal may help Microsoft pull ahead in the next console generation, rumors about the power of Series X versus PS5 may also lend credence to this theory. However, as is the case with the history of console launches, it may be the launch titles that will really determine which system will rise above the other. Whichever way this goes when comparing the two leading console developers, as far as the Series X goes, it is likely to outpace the Xbox One and One X come 2020.
