An anonymous forum user has leaked the first publicly available images of the front and back of the Xbox Series X, revealing the new console's ports. NeoGAF member CurryPanda shared the images in a thread on the popular forum Tuesday.

The images show a USB 3.0 port on the front of the Xbox Series X, which can also be seen in the photos Microsoft has released since unveiling the console at the Game Awards last month. The back of the console is where things get interesting, with a single HDMI output port, two additional USB 3.0 ports, an optical audio port, and an Ethernet socket, along with the ever-important power supply and a proprietary socket for diagnostic reports that may not be included in the final consumer version of the console.

Most of the selection is consistent with the inputs available on the Xbox One X and S models, but a glaring omission is the HDMI input port included on every Xbox One model. While the feature was a relic of the TV-focused strategy that put the Xbox One far behind the PlayStation 4 at launch, some users found the extra input useful as an expansion for their AV systems, and its absence will likely come as a shock for Xbox One owners hoping to make the switch to the Series X or the rumored Xbox Lockhart.

If the images are to be believed, Microsoft also seems to have foregone putting USB-C ports on the Xbox Series X, confirming a report from earlier this month. While keeping USB 3.0 as the primary interface for the console ensures that the Series X will stay compatible with hardware designed to work with the Xbox One, excluding USB-C could mean that newer devices like headsets and external storage would require unwieldy adapters to play nice with the machine.

Microsoft itself has not officially shared the finished hardware for the Xbox Series X in full, so most of the console's specifications are subject to change, but as the new year rolls on and the holiday 2020 release window approaches, the particulars of the Series X are likely to draw closer and closer to their final form. Until then, it looks like this is the best peek at the console yet.
