As such, one talented Xbox fan has recently followed suit, crossing their console over with one of the fantasy genre's most acclaimed movies.
Making a gaming console that is both aesthetically good-looking on a mass consumer scale and is functional on a technical front is a tricky balance to achieve. However, if done correctly, it can elevate the gaming experience while simultaneously making a neat visual addition to any household. To cast a wider net in this area, console makers often collaborate with video game publishers and developers to come up with uniquely themed consoles. However, many fans will also create custom consoles by taking matters into their own hands and designing a look inspired by their favorite pieces of art.
As a way to pay homage to Pan's Labyrinth, also known as The Labyrinth of the Faun by some fans, Reddit user TieDyeAndPsycholog has transformed their very own Xbox Series X to make the almost monolithic console exterior clash with one of famed-director Guillermo del Toro's most fantastical movies. Soon after sharing this kaleidoscopically radiant design on an otherwise pale character, TieDyeAndPsycholog's post received praise from gamers in the community, with comments such as "That’s sooo dope!" and "So cool!" filling the reply section.
Making up the artwork is the iconic character simply named the Pale Man. Performed by Doug Jones, this grotesque monster with a devilishly squeamish appetite for children is amazingly captured in all its twisted, bewitching glory. After all, everything that makes up the saggy-skinned monster's legendary appearance is gracefully translated in this fan design, such as its long black fingernails, the skin folds along the forearm, and its protruding bony chest. On top of this, the custom paint job also sees the Pale Man take form in his signature pose; hands over the face, palms exposed to reveal a pair of eyeballs.
In summary, imaginative fan creations like this that transform the Xbox Series X prove that the gaming community can be incredibly inventive when it comes to console designs, even when compared to official themed designs released by Microsoft.
