At the time of this writing, there are very few games known to be launching for the Xbox Series X. Now while that may be due to the fact that Microsoft has yet to fully show off much of its next-gen console beyond the console itself, it’s possible that that could also be because the XSX won’t have many games available, or at least not as many as the Xbox One had back in 2013.

The topic was brought up this week by Xbox chief Phil Spencer during an episode of IGN’s Xbox-centric podcast Unlocked. There, he stated his belief that the Xbox One’s launch lineup was too big. “It doesn’t really help somebody to have eight games launched on one day, and I think you can pace those out,” he said.

While it helps for a console to start off strong, Spencer made it clear that he’s more interested in pacing things out to maintain “the momentum of the platform” and ensure “a sustained stream of great games.”

From the look of things, it looks like Microsoft may be planning on going for quality over quantity with the Xbox's launch, similarly to how the Nintendo Switch managed to get off to a strong start mostly thanks to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. That’s a trick Microsoft could potentially pull off as well, given that the highly-anticipated Halo Infinite is headlining the console’s launch lineup.

The Xbox Series X is slated to launch this holiday season.
