Since the Xbox Series X launched in 2020, there have been a lot of unique and wonderfully customized controllers that have graced the internet. Overall, the Xbox Series X controller slightly tweaked and improved its design from previous generations. The edges are rounded, the triggers have a tactile dot pattern, the bumpers and D-pad have a matte finish, the addition of a ‘share’ button, reduced input latency, and it’s compatible with PC, Android, iOS, and Xbox One.

Microsoft has dropped some pretty cool custom controllers in addition to its normal color schemes, carbon black and robot white, that most players could not wait to get their hands on. Unboxing videos of Xbox Series X controllers leaked online long before the system was set to launch as one example. The Xbox Design Lab allows players to customize new controllers, but Microsoft already has some wonderful preplanned choices ready for purchase.

Shock Blue

Shock Blue is the first new release for Xbox Series X custom controllers after the initial wave of black and white controllers. Its sharp blue finish is softened by the crisp, white back case that looks refreshingly cool to the touch. It was released followed closely by a complimentary red counterpart.

Pulse Red

Its adrenaline-pumping red finish and crisp, white back case, make the Pulse Red controller feel like the perfect inverse partner to the Shock Blue controller. Pulse Red is the perfect color scheme for those times when players want to have a more intense gaming experience or play the game Control on Xbox Series X.

Daystrike Camo

The Daystrike Camo Special Edition controller puts players in the heart of the action with a red, grey, and black camouflage pattern, similar to Night-Ops Camo and Arctic Camo Special Edition controllers. It features a special textured grip on its bumpers. Daystrike Camo is as close to military fatigues as current Xbox Series X custom controllers get. The Daystrike Camo Special Edition controller is set to launch on May 4.

Electric Volt

The Electric Volt controller combines a neon yellow finish with a white back case. It’s the happy-go-lucky member of the new controller group, reminding players to wake up and take on the day. According to Microsoft, its look is inspired by the energy and vibrance often found in athletic apparel and sneaker design. The Electric Volt controller is set to launch on April 27.

Official Xbox Series X Controller Collaborations

Microsoft partnered with a few different companies to release a handful of special edition Xbox Series X controllers that deal with more specific and detailed themes. Most of these items are limited edition, and some are purely intended as promotional tools, but they are all gorgeous and optimized for next-generation gameplay.

Butterfinger

Butterfinger partnered with Microsoft to heavily market Xbox Series X and its major release title, Halo Infinite. The candy god was offering trials of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and exclusive Halo Infinite emblems with the purchase of Butterfinger candy bars. Eventually, Butterfinger released an Xbox Series X controller that laid out a glossy yellow finish with a black back case. It has a fading blue dot pattern on its left side and Butterfinger’s logo on the right side. Any Xbox Series X player would happily lay a finger on this Butterfinger controller.

Bethesda

To celebrate Bethesda joining the Xbox team after Microsoft acquired Zenimax, a group of limited-edition Bethesda-themed controllers was released as one package in a sweepstake giveaway. The custom controllers had color schemes specific to several major Bethesda game franchises including Dishonored, Prey, Doom, Wolfenstein, The Elder Scrolls, Fallout, and The Evil Within. Though it feels odd to give six controllers to one lucky fan, perhaps fans will see more releases of Bethesda-themed Xbox controllers throughout its life at Microsoft. Until then, the value of these incredibly rare custom pieces cannot be understated.

Xbox Canada’s Canadian Tuxedo

Xbox Canada decided to divert from the widely praised ergonomic design of Xbox controllers to create an Xbox Series X ‘Canadian Tuxedo’ controller which, above all else, has pure style. It’s a pair of jeans. The denim finish is set off by two belt loops and two functional pockets. This controller has more pockets than most actual clothing. Although the controller was purely used for marketing and is not available for purchase, the internet is imploring Xbox Canada to release a limited batch of the controller. If nothing else, it definitely excited fans of the system and inspired them to come up with interesting ideas for more custom controllers.

Outriders

People Can Fly, the developer behind the cooperative role-playing 3rd-person shooter, has teamed up with the popular gaming hardware artist POPeART to create custom Outriders controllers for Xbox Series X. There are six controllers total, each of which are given away during a promotional giveaway for the new game: one Technomancer-themed controller, one Pyromancer-themed controller, one Devastator-themed controller, one Trickster-themed controller, and two controllers that encompass all of the colors and Outriders class symbols.

The Medium

Bloober Team's newest game The Medium, which some fans are touting as this generation's Silent Hill, sent out a custom Xbox Series X controller to one very excited fan in anticipation of the game's release. The controller was accompanied by a download code for the game. Said to be one of the biggest horror games of the year, The Medium looks great even as a controller.

Football Manager 21

To celebrate the monumental occasion of porting its game to consoles, the successful sports simulation franchise Football Manager 21 released an Xbox Series X controller. There are five controllers that were given out to members of the game's information website. The controllers sport neon green and purple block coloring that is reminiscent of the game's color scheme.

Mandalorian

Microsoft collaborated with the Disney+ show, The Mandalorian, to produce two new exclusively themed custom controllers. One of the most attractive aspects of these two pairs of sticks is the fact that they look even better when placed side by side. One controller has a burnt reddish-orange finish with a black back case, a tan D-pad, and a depiction of Grogu (often affectionally referred to as Baby Yoda) facing to the right and holding out his hand in order to wield the force. The other controller has a sea-blue finish with a matching D-pad and black back case, and it depicts the Mandalorian in beskar armor facing to the left, presumably facing Gorgu on the other controller. Both controllers would look fantastic mounted next to each other on any home entertainment system.

KFC

kfc

Microsoft partnered with two Yum! Brands restaurants, Taco Bell and KFC, to promote Xbox Series X. Taco Bell held a giveaway for the system itself, but unfortunately did not produce a custom controller. However, in addition to giving away a new system, KFC made a custom Xbox Series X controller. It is one of the most eye-catching controllers in the constantly growing line-up of new custom Xbox Series X controllers. The controller has classic ‘KFC red’ handle grips with a white center and black back case. Lovely cartoon fried chicken, smiling buckets, and Colonel Sanders faces are sprinkled across the front of the controller along with a wildly clever rephrasing of the company’s long-standing slogan, “Finger clickin’ good,” written in the lower left-hand corner.

The Xbox Series X is available now.
