Microsoft has released a slew of new information for the Xbox Series X, its upcoming next-generation console. So far, Microsoft has detailed the Xbox Series X specs, shown some of the console's features in action, and now it has pulled the curtain back on the Xbox Series X controller and what improvements it will be bringing to the table.

The Xbox Series X controller is designed to fit a wider range of hand sizes, with changes that should make the controller more comfortable for all players. This was accomplished by "rounding the bumpers, slightly reducing and rounding parts around the triggers, and carefully sculpting the grips," according to Xbox Senior Designer Ryan Whitaker. The Xbox Series X controller d-pad has also been given a face-lift, which fans can see in the new images.

There are some other major improvements with the Xbox Series X controller as well. For example, the Xbox Series X controller will have reduced latency. "The result: we shave off precious milliseconds at every step of gameplay, and actions are even more instantaneous." The Xbox Series X controller will also have a share button, which will allow users to quickly share screenshots and videos with friends.

Some other changes coming with the Xbox Series X controller may seem minor in the grand scheme of things, but could make a big difference. Whitaker detailed the "tactile dot pattern on the triggers and bumpers," which will allow for improved grip, theoretically resulting in improved gameplay performance. Whitaker also explained that the d-pad, bumpers, and triggers all have a matte finish so that it will have a consistent feel regardless of whether one's hands are wet or dry.

It's also been revealed that the Xbox Series X controller will use batteries, just like Xbox 360 and Xbox One controllers. Players will once again be able to use AA batteries to charge their wireless Xbox Series X controllers, but there will still be the option to plug it in to the console itself. Rechargeable battery packs will also be an option with the Xbox Series X controller.

The Xbox Series X controller will be compatible with a variety of devices, including iOS and Android, as part of the Project xCloud program. Presumably, every Xbox Series X console will come bundled with a controller, though pricing information for extra controllers has yet to be revealed at the time of this writing.
