Although the next-generation is well and truly here, with the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 dropping back in November, many still haven't had the opportunity to get themselves a piece of next-generation hardware. From lack of stock from both parties to the incredibly tight windows of time retailers have the consoles on sale, it seems getting hold of a PS5 or Xbox Series X is proving much more difficult than many expected.

Unfortunately, it seems the Xbox Series X could be in the same situation for the foreseeable future, with Microsoft's head of investor relations, Mike Spencer, telling The New York Times that stock likely won't return for a while yet. According to the publication's interview, "supply is likely to be constrained at least through June," meaning those hoping to easily secure themselves the company's newest console could be out of luck.

This is supposedly due to Microsoft shifting all of its stock, with Spencer claiming it sold over "$5 billion in gaming revenue in a quarter" for the first time ever. Seeing as the Xbox One had a rough beginning to the previous generation in comparison to the PlayStation 4, it's interesting to see that the company is starting off much stronger this time around. As for when players can expect to snag themselves an Xbox Series X, it seems it will be easier to acquire during the latter half of 2021, with Microsoft looking to replenish its stock over the next few months.

Although having to wait for additional stock is tough, many of the Xbox Series X's biggest 2021 releases appear to be coming in the later months of this year, with the company's flagship blockbuster, Halo Infinitelanding this fall. It seems players won't be missing out on too much while Microsoft spends a little longer getting its consoles in the hands of its fans.

Other exclusives coming to the Xbox Series X this year will be Warhammer 40K Darktide, The Gunk, and the console port of Microsoft Flight Simulator. There will also be several third-party console exclusives and indie games, including Scorn, Warhammer 40K: Darktide, 12 Minutes starring Daisy Ridley and Willem Dafoe, Crossfire X, and The Wild at Heart. The first Series X exclusive landed just a few days ago, with Bloober Team's The Medium utilizing the power of the console's SSD and visual technology to deliver a cinematic horror game which saw players traverse both the land of the living and the dead. It's already gone on to be a big financial success for Bloober Team.
