Microsoft has finally opened the Xbox Series X pre-orders, letting fans get first dibs on the company's upcoming next-generation console. Microsoft has also opened pre-orders for some of the Xbox Series X accessories and other hardware, including a brand new Xbox Series X controller that serves as the first controller variant for the new system.
The Xbox Series X Shock Blue controller is available alongside standard Carbon Black and Robot White controller colors at launch on November 10. Microsoft has pointed out that the Xbox Series X Shock Blue controller color hasn't been seen on any previous Xbox controllers. The Xbox Series X Shock Blue controller uses a black d-pad and blue ABYX buttons, along with a white back case.
It's worth pointing out that those that want the Xbox Series X Shock Blue controller will have to pay a little bit more than they would if they purchased an extra black or white controller. The Xbox Series X blue controller costs $64.99, whereas the Xbox Series X black and white controllers retail for $59.99. Those that purchase an Xbox Series X will get the black controller bundled with their console, whereas the white controller is bundled with the Xbox Series S.
Plus, Xbox One controllers are fully compatible with Xbox Series X, so if someone has any of those lying around, they don't necessarily need to invest in any new controllers. Still, the Xbox Series X Shock Blue controller seems to have been well-received so far, and so it's not surprising that some fans will want to add it to their collection.
Meanwhile, the Xbox Series X controllers are all cheaper than the PlayStation 5 DualSense controllers, which retail for $69.99. However, the DualSense controllers appear to have a lot more added functionality than the Series X controllers, with things like a touchpad, a microphone, and more that give it added value.
As far as Xbox Series X controller features, it has a redesigned d-pad, plus the new Share button. The Share button makes it a lot easier for players to share screenshots and clips of games, and allows them to do so without having to stop and open a menu like is required on the Xbox One. Whether or not that functionality makes the Xbox Series X controllers worth the investment is up for debate, but it's possible the Share button will become the Xbox Series X controller's defining new feature.
