Ever since they released back in November of last year, players have been in a constant struggle to purchase next generation consoles. This is particularly unfortunate since more and more games are releasing as next generation exclusives. Both the PlayStation 5 and new Xbox consoles offer cheaper versions (digital and Series S), but even these were nigh impossible to get for a while. It looks like that may change soon, as the recent Amazon restock of Xbox Series S consoles has seen something interesting happen. Even though the consoles restocked a while ago, the Series S variant has remained in stock.

Readers that haven't been trying to get a next generation console may not be familiar with all of the problems that have been plaguing those that have. The Xbox Series X|S released on November 10th last year, with the digital and disc editions of the PS5 releasing just a few days later on November 12th. Ever since then, a lack of supply, the inability of websites to handle high amounts of traffic, and a plague of bots and scalpers have made getting a console harder than the games players would play on it.

The fact that Amazon still has Xbox Series S consoles in stock would have been unheard of even just a month ago, and some onlookers are hoping that this indicates the start of a trend. If those hopeful players are right, then it may not be long before other next generation consoles like the Xbox Series X and PS5 start to have stock more steadily.

Amazon has Xbox Series S in stock

It is important to remember that the Xbox Series S is objectively the least popular next generation console. Between the four options, players are purchasing variants of the PS5 or the more powerful (but more expensive) Xbox Series X instead. This obviously plays a large role in why these consoles have remained in stock while the Xbox Series X went out of stock almost immediately. As such, players definitely shouldn't expect to be able to easily get a PS5 or Xbox Series X anytime soon, but it doesn't hurt to take this as a sign that things might change in the near future.

Players wanting to purchase one of the Xbox Series S machines still in stock at Amazon will still want to act quickly, as there's no telling when the machine will sell out again. It's also worth noting that many of the options available on Amazon at the moment are from third-party sellers with prices slightly higher than the retail value of the machine.

The Xbox Series S is available now.
