During a Gamelab Live 2020 interview recently, Xbox Head Phil Spencer commented on the big PS5 reveal event that took place earlier this month. According to Spencer, Sony did a good job with the console showcase and that he "felt good" after seeing what their chief competitor has to offer. Of course, Spencer also acknowledged the hardware advantages of the Xbox Series X over the PS5 during the interview.

Immediately after the big PS5 reveal, Spencer said that he sent a congratulatory note to Sony's Jim Ryan for pulling off a high-production-value event despite the many uncertainties happening around the world. Of course, Microsoft has been upfront with the design and specifications of the Xbox Series X, which was revealed in December 2019. In comparison, Sony only unveiled the design of the PS5 last June 11, though its hardware specifications were revealed previously.

Now that both consoles and some of its lineup of games are out in the open, Spencer said that it gave them clarity on what to do next, helping Microsoft focus on what they currently have, which Spencer believes will be the Xbox Series X's strength at launch. At the moment, both the PS5 and Xbox Series X do not have specific release dates, though the next-generation consoles are expected to come out during Holiday 2020.

While both consoles will obviously have beefier internals, the Xbox Series X has been boasting its Smart Delivery feature, which offers players a comprehensive solution to playing games across console generations. Through the Smart Delivery System, the Xbox Series X will allow players to buy an Xbox One game and upgrade to the Xbox Series X version for free. This technology also applies to exclusives that will get the Xbox Series X upgrade and the Xbox team confirmed that the Smart Delivery feature is available to all developers.

On the flip side, when Sony was asked whether the PS5 will have an equivalent feature, a company spokesperson revealed that PS4 to PS5 upgrades will be done at the publisher's discretion, which could mean that Sony is not planning to offer an extensive upgrade program similar to that of the Xbox Series X. Of course, players who are planning to purchase a PS5 will likely be disappointed with this information, especially since the Xbox Series X also offers a more in-depth backward compatibility feature, which pales in comparison to the PS5 that may only be able to play most PS4 games.
