For players that have been keeping a close eye on Xbox and PlayStation in the lead up to the next generation of gaming, it's probably not surprising that the companies are taking very different approaches. While Sony and PlayStation have remained steadfast in the belief of new console generations, Microsoft and Xbox have elected to take a different path by pushing services like Xbox Game Pass. In fact, it seems that Xbox is so dedicated to this strategy that it is actually willing to discuss bringing this service to rival consoles.

Head of Xbox, Phil Spencer, recently sat down for an interview at Game Reactor where he discussed many topics facing Xbox and the Xbox Series X in the coming generation. When asked if Spencer could see Xbox Game Pass ever coming to a Nintendo or PlayStation platform, Spencer stated that while he loves what those companies have been doing, he's not quite sure that those "are the next big set of users for us." However, Spencer then went on to say that the Xbox team would be open to discussions with those companies.

Spencer also stated that for Xbox, priority and reach are what's most important. According to this interview, it seems that the next platform that Spencer is focused getting Xbox Game Pass on is iOS. Xbox has faced several roadblocks over the past few months as it has attempted to launch Game Streaming (also known as Project xCloud) on Apple devices. Apple has shot many of these attempts down, however, causing the Game Pass feature to currently be available on Android devices exclusively.

These comments by Spencer appear very consistent with Xbox's business strategy over the past few years. Xbox has remained committed to its Play Anywhere initiative, where players can purchase first-party Xbox titles on console or PC and receive the other version at no additional cost. Play Anywhere also supports both cross-progression and cross-play between consoles and PC's, which is an idea and practice that Xbox will continue going into the next generation with the Xbox Series X and Series S.

While iOS seems to be Xbox's focus for now, there are other platforms that Xbox Game Pass may likely appear on before either Nintendo or PlayStation's. During this same question, Spencer discussed the possibility of bringing Game Pass to smart TV's and Amazon Fire Sticks. And while this is all just hypothetical right now, it seems that Xbox has grand ambitions for both Game Pass and the Xbox brand alike.
