For this console generation, both Sony and Microsoft have decided to take multiple attempts at pushing the boundaries of power within the console world. While Sony's PS4 Pro has hit the market already, gamers are still waiting for the Xbox One X, which is due to launch on November 7, 2017. In the run-up to the release of the console, however, one industry expert has made a strong prediction for the beefed-up Xbox.

Recently, renowned video game industry analyst Michael Pachter took to Twitter to discuss the potential for the Xbox One X. Once queried about exactly how well Microsoft's new device will fare on the market in comparison to the PS4 and the PS4 Pro, Pachter stated that he expected the Xbox One X to outsell the PS4 Pro. "The Pro, yes, the PS4, no," said the analyst.

It's certainly a bold prediction, and it's always difficult to know which way the community will swing when it comes to such high performance devices as the Xbox One X. Should gamers see the potential in the console, then there's every chance that it could be worth the substantial price tag for many. However, there's also the possibility that the expense could prove too much for some, even with trade-in Xbox One X promotions available.

So far, though, the Xbox One X seems to be a confident bet as a success in the market. As it stands, the Xbox One X is the fastest-selling Xbox pre-order ever, meaning that it could be shaping up to be a huge hit. Of course, a lot will depend on sales post-launch, but if the console lives up to the solid reception of its hardware pre-release then there's every chance Pachter's prediction could prove to be correct.

In terms of what that means in terms of overall sales, another analysis firm may well be a good place to turn. David Cole of the firm DFC Intelligence has given a prediction that the Xbox One X could hit 17 million units sold by 2021, which would be a decent return on a console that comes at such a premium price.

Whether that will be enough to beat the PS4 Pro, of course, is another matter entirely. Sony has suggested sales are strong without giving any definitive figures, meaning that Microsoft could still have a fierce fight on its hands.
